Disappointing
For some reason I find the format of this show to be very frustrating to watch. It's just not fun.

shareYou said it; it's not fun. Part of the fun of Top Chef is all the backstabbing and clashing personalities. This variation is just plain boring. A friendly rivalry of two chefs cooking three meals. Meh...

Plus the slow motion carp is very annoying.
shareIt's too much like Chopped.
Too much grimacing from Richard Blaze (however you spell it.) He did it before - now he does it constantly like he has a neurological problem.

Chopped is actually fun. Here there are not enough competitors, too many judges, and not enough valuable/useful feedback.
Seriously some of these people have no earthly idea how to cook or any concept of flavor
Therein lies the entertainment.
Completely agree. I just took it off my DVR. The pacing is terrible and the chefs seem to be mugging for the cameras even more than usual. The atmosphere is more like the comp shows on The Food Network, which all seem contrived and phony to me.

I agree. It's not much fun. I'll watch because I like cooking porn. But, it's no replacement for the any of the other Top Chef competitions.

Really? Well I guess if you watch Top Chef to see really lousy editing of pre-coaxed taunting and grown ups acting like 10 year olds on a playground, you wouldn't be too interested in something that is purely fun and about food.
I've always Top Chef with a finger on the skip button to get through all the idiotic fake rivalries and ego trips right to the creation part so that works perfectly for me.

I just don't trust that their opinions aren't swayed by who the chefs are. I don't know why they can't have blind tasting and judging. Or like a pageant voting and grading but not discussing. The judges are supposed to be world renowned chefs. Do they really need a dish explained to them before they eat them? Top Chef and Chopped judges seem biased to me. I took this off my dvr as well.
The Taste has some problems but you can see, unless they're great actors, how surprised they are about some of the dishes and who cooked them, sometimes voting off their own team members.
I think it's very fun to see people create in a way that I am unable. Also, it's fun to see former cheftestants, how they are doing, and to see them get along. Unless it's in a fictional show, or in the spirit of friendly competition-appropriate smack-talking (like Antonia and her cousin), I don't find conflict entertaining. There's enough of that in real life and more than enough trashy "reality" shows if that's to someone's liking.
