Better zombie action than 7 seasons of the Walking Dead

People need to see this movie and realize how ridiculous TWD is. I still watch it because I read the comics (just like I read the manga of I Am a Hero) and see the differences/similarities but it's really a waste of time.

In I Am a Hero I like the nod to Inio Asano's works. We know how close they are. Fantastic manga authors!

Let me just say this: I also read - and am a fan - of the original "I Am a Hero" manga. It is, in my opinion, one of the best Zombie-related things across all kinds of media, whether it's manga, comics, movies, tv shows, etc.

It's really a groundbreaking work for more than a couple of reasons. I also happen to be familiar with Inio Asano's works, and it's funny because Asano himself (or rather, his appearance) is also a character in the current chapters of I Am a Hero.

With that being said, I just saw the movie and I must say I disagree with you.

Yes, I also follow TWD, both show and comic (was already familiar with the comics even before the adaptation was announced). I'm not gonna say anything like "it's the best show ever" or anything like that. It has its ups and downs, that's for sure, but then again every show has those.

I literally just finished watching "I Am a Hero", and while I won't say that it was a "sh_tty movie", it certainly wasn't a good one. Like, literally nothing happens during the whole 2 hours.

Every "event" is exactly the same kind of trope that you find in every other zombie-work:

- main character comes into contact with a loved one who has become infected;
- main character manages to survive the chaos and make it out alive;
- main character comes across a group that is hiding out in - surprise surprise - on top of a mall;
- as expected, bad sh_t goes down, the whole area is compromised, and the main character is forced to escape and move on.

That's it.

Hideo barely had any dialogue in it, no development, nothing at all. Same for all the other characters. Nothing interesting happens in this movie adaptation, it seems like they purposefully left out all the good stuff that actually made Hideo AND the history compelling:

- nothing related to Hideo's "hallucinations";
- nothing in-depth to showcase how different these "zombies" are from the rest;
- not even a peek or a hint at "Kurusus";
- etc.

I could go on, but really, Hideo in this movie was nothing but that, a simple "normal" guy, while his manga counterpart is oh so much more rich and problematic.

But why, why would the zombies have to have those stupid eyes, each one looking in a different direction? That was so stupid, silly and uncalled for. I don't understand that stylistic choice one bit.

Again, you can say what you want about TWD, but at least TWD had some solid drama twists and developments.

However, we can't forget that with a TV show you get to have more development spread out over lots of hours of material, whereas with movies you're kinda just stuck with a couple of hours to do the trick.

That's true, and I won't question that, but saying that this movie is better than TWD is simply wrong.

Like I pointed out, there was - shamefully - nothing good or original about this movie. And it seems like the director knew this, and decided to throw in that prolonged scene at the end where Hideo shoots almost a hundred zombies, probably figuring out that there wasn't much zombie-killing/action in the whole movie up until that point.

There were also plenty of issues with the way characters acted in the Mall. Like, literally no character tried to aim for the zombies' heads, they were always hitting them in chest and the back. And for a while there Hideo could've grabbed that metal bat but he didn't, which was also extremely stupid.

Again, it's a shame because the original work is a tremendous piece of fiction. It's like someone picked up the mangas and decided to take away all the "complicated" elements and just make it a regular zombie flick.

I'm sorry, but even Train to Busan was better than this.

I just wish they would turn I Am a Hero into an anime already, that's the only place where an adaptation could really do it justice.

Fine, fine, I'll leave! But first I'm going to bother these peanuts! Hmm? Yes? Hmm? HMM?

I couldn't read through the whole essay, just about 1/3. If you read the books, why did you not like the movie? Could you just bullet point that? I mean, the movie changed a bit from the book, but it was still pretty true.

I outlined everything in my post... If you don't feel like reading it, well...

Well, I don't think the movie had the intention to be serious, like TWD has. It's more of a "just have fun" movie. And I had, though I agree the plot is very thin.

It takes a couple of minutes to read.
What the hell is wrong with people?
"Couldn't read it". Was it painful?

This movie sucked. It was *beep* ridiculous actually. This makes the Walking Dead look like shakespeare. This is TWD for 13 year olds.

I wouldn't invite you to a party.

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.

i freaking LOVE this movie! the zombie kills are incredibly well done and gory as FK! the "Olympic high jump" zombie guy is actually really freaky/scary!
