shareHonestly, I think comedians rely on a combination of jokes and presentation to get laughs.
For instance a non-energetic performer might deliver jokes dryly and rely on written material and comedic timing to get a laugh (ie Jeselnik, Hedburg).
On the other spectrum you have very energetic performers relying on movement and emphasis for laughs. (Jim Carrey, Cook).
To be honest, Dane Cook isn't that bad. To many people though, if you find his presentation spastic and annoying, then he becomes extremely grating. I happen to be one of those people.
