is this Gaspar`s worst movie?

yes or no?

reply

No. He has no bad movies IMO.

reply

Yes. By far.
His feature-length track record had been flawless up to this (I haven't seen any of his shorts or anthology segments). It's a huge disappointment in every possible way.

reply

I don't like it.

reply

I liked the film, the one I wasn't so keen about was Irreversible.

Actually all his films kind of bother me at first, they test my patience, but it's only some time after seeing them that I appreciate them better, but that's not the case with Irreversible. Don't know why.

reply

I have loved everything from Noé, the shorts, the musical videos he directed. But that main character in LOVE really made my blood boil. If he was an outright villain, I could appreciate it but that gimmick of making Murphy sympathetic turned me off totally. Marcus in Irreversible was sorta an arsehole but he had a purpose. Maybe it was Cassel's briiliant acting, I dunno.
I hope there's a female main character in his next film.

I wish I hadn't watched this film.

reply

Sometimes his films grow on you, so don't regret watching the film.

I too really disliked Murphy, but I did kind of feel bad for him in the end because he does seem to regret his stupidity. I know quite a few people who have that regret of losing a great relationship because of their stupidity, and they too seem to be full of regret.

Curiously, there really wasn't a script for the film, as most of the dialogue was made up on the spot by the actors themselves. It seems like Noe was more interested in the sex scenes than the plot of his film.

reply

Perhaps I should watch it from a different perspective.

The male-focused sex bothered me a lot. The sex seemed shallow, except for the latter scenes and the beautifully shot ménage a trois.
It's like Electra says at a point: he only wanted her coz she was pretty.

reply

Yeah I also intend to watch it soon.

In my opinion, all sex scenes are stupid, but I can't say this film bothered me because I knew Noe was going to focus on that. Yep the sex was pretty shallow, but I guess it would also seem that way to anyone watching anyone else having sex. I don't remember the dialogue, but of course he wanted her because she was pretty. It was all about physical attraction and nothing more really.

reply

I like the sex scenes in Von Trier's Depression trilogy. Especially because they are not meant to be titillating.

reply

I loved Antichrist and Melancholia and I agree, the sex is not titillating. I'm yet to see Nymphomaniac....so I'll add it to my list. lol

reply

Nymphomaniac is brilliant. But brace yourself for it. I reccomend watching the two parts separately. Charlotte Gainsbourg is one hell of an actress!!!

reply

Yeah I really like her as an actress. She was great in Antichrist.

reply

Antichrist scarred me for life. It took me some time to get some images off of my mind.

reply

You mean the scissors and hammer scenes? lol

reply

Yeah, also the kid falling while they did it.

reply

That was a great scene.

reply

Hauntingly so.

In my opinion this is his best film, followed closely by Enter the Void.
