Who's the unstable one? (spoilers!)

In the storyline it says Electra is unstable, but after watching this film, i would argue that Murphy is the actual unstable factor...
He is the jealous one, yet he still feels the need to cheat and lie about it.
Electra is just heavily involved and gets angry, but she is the open and honest one here.
Murphy could have learned a lot from Electra.

reply

Indeed. Douchebag Murphy is the only unstable person here.

I agree. The drugs couldn't have helped either. They were both standing on unstable ground trying to appear stable to one another and that fell apart.

reply

I just wrote the exact same thing. Guess I can delete mine! Murphy seemed to be the psycho.

You guys must be joking, I can't believe what I'm reading! I watched the movie and got so pissed on whole society how it became greatly unequal to men - this is only one little aspect of it, how much instability is considered normal in each gender.

She wasn't honest since the first day. She was in love at first, he was too, sure, fell so easily into her daydreams of romance and promises, then started to choke him slowly. Yes, I agree, he was jealous a lot, but not abnormally before she cheated. It was weird meeting her ex, wasn't it? Was she jealous even more? Remember the scene in the club when he cheated, she couldn't know, it was the same as she disappeared in the gallery... But he could be cooler, sure, he could learn a lot from the policeman guy. Nothing wrong with a white lie, but it is with making someone desperate.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out the turn when she angrily confessed how she ended up again with that creepy old ex? When he was a hothead, did they have to go that party? He did forgive her truly. And after the scene, after the police, she was angry while he was weeping for her. What a *beep* That's a major turn, most painful scene, he should have walked away. It only could go downwards after, he tried to please her best he could, was dragged into her lullaby of drugs, all the other stuff, sinking deeper and deeper. But he loved her. And it seemed all the time how she wasn't that involved at all, just manipulating him for the little things like the others.

He tried to be happy afterwards with that kid, but he couldn't when she didn't love any other woman. Both lives ruined.

Have to agree with most of the points Natbaj made.

In the end though both were equally unstable and it's highly likely the relationship would have failed regardless of the pregnancy.

reply

Typical... blame the woman.

reply

Exactly. Clearly Murphy was the most unstable and emotionally immature of them.

Also I don't see what's the big deal. Sure he lost the love of his life, as many young people do without realising it until it's too late, but at least he had a baby he loved and eventually he would fall in love with somebody else, but this time he won't be such an asshole, and he'll look after the relationship. It was a big mistake for him to sleep with the stupid neighbour, but the biggest mistake was for both Electra and him to have slept with her in the first place. They were playing with fire, making their relationship an open relationship, and when that happens, an unplanned pregnancy is the least of their worries. I mean, what if one of them would have got Aids?

reply

A very weak, meaningless character Murphy is.
I never disliked a character that much.

reply

Yeah I have to say I disliked him for most of the film too. lol
