Much better than the low rating suggests
I typically avoid movies that have less than a 4 rating on IMDB, but I love the found footage genre and this was free with Amazon Prime, so I took a chance. So glad I did because I really enjoyed the movie.
It isn't without its flaws...you know, the typical found footage complaints: Too many unlikable (and stupid) characters, wildly gyrating camera, etc. Ten-plus years into FF and you'd think filmmakers would evolve past those tired devices.
However, the flaws are more than balanced out by lots of little creepy moments and a bit of mystery that pays off in the very last few seconds, if you pay attention. The acting also was good. Even Becca -- annoying as she was -- was believable. And there was more of a plot than typical FF movies (again, you had to pay attention to the little clues). The setting was pretty frickin' spooky, too.
I watch a ton of FF movies (more than a dozen just in the last three days) and this one definitely is superior to the majority of those in the indie/super low-budget category.
In the end, I think The Cutting Room deserves a higher rating than the current 3-something. Personally, I gave it a 6.
