Missed Opportunity

You have SALLY FIELD, and the chance to make a movie where a sixty year old woman is the MAIN CHARACTER, and this is what you made? I love Showalter, but this was all over the place. I can't stop thinking about how, maybe, one day, a movie about the sexuality of an aging woman might actually not be "quirky" or a rom com staring gracefully aging male and female costars. Maybe not having it written by a beautiful young woman would help?

I guess I just love Sally so much and was expecting too much: like Harold and Maude or Lost in Translation caliber.

PS were we supposed be happy that she and that crappy therapist just got rid of all her awesome stuff?

In today's world people are distracted easily and can't be bothered to understand such complex issues. I feel like this was a dip your toe in the water movie. Just even having a female of her age and making a movie about her wanting a love interest is amazing on it's own. Really quite surprised this movie was even made.

Maybe they were trying to get older people back into theaters? I mean most movies are for the kiddies. And I guess since most millennials, or whatever we are deciding to call young adults these days, got screwed in the recession they want to get others to the theater. But yeah I looked at the writers and, no surprise they focused on the most shallow of things.

I mean they do have movies with Sally Field aged people. But most often they are the 'Oscar' nominated fare that only 10 people watch. No offence. I like a movie that is not too stupid but at the same time does not take itself too seriously. This movie tired to be a rom com I guess. The ending was so open. I mean what happened? They did it on purpose in order to give the audience a 'maybe'. I highly doubt that people would believe a man of his age would chase after her. I have seen younger men with older women, it's happens. But they way they presented it in this movie with they way they made her look so bad....I mean if they had made her dress just normally, there would be no big deal.

I find that many people look to the older generation as more appealing. Than the things going on in today's young society. But yeah, kinda like those makeover movies like "She's all that" Where they get a pretty girl to wear glasses and she is called 'ugly' the makeover basically consists of taking her glasses off....They really made fun of this well in the parody movie "Not another teen movie".

Anyways it's not too far fetched for this to happen. They just made it so extreme. I felt sorry for this poor woman the whole time, the way people treated her. Again shallow, but if these studios want to make money this is what they have to spit out. Anything too high brow will drive people away. We got 2 Paul blart mall cop movies, where Star Trek TOS with all it's intelligent writing was CANCELLED. Says something about society.......

Good points. Again, I guess I was expecting too much from the Hollywood machine. You're right- the fact that we even get to watch Sally in a movie like this (no matter how flawed or disappointing) is a feat in and of itself.

I am not sure what you were expecting? What should the story have been about?
