Poor Mrs.Brown

I felt bad for Mrs. Brown. She was a good person, Gamby and Russell was set her up. They digged deep and found her weakness.

I do not think she was a good person. She was over bearing, power hungry, ignorant, she has a nasty attitude often, made bad decisions hooking with a lowlife, she made Gamby fire a long time employee, she humiliates Gamby and anyone she does not like, she takes credit for things she did not do, she goes crazy when she is drunk calling people names, attacking them, acting like a fool, etc

Agreed - the only person that is really good in this show is Snodgrass, Gamby's daughter, and her step father.

I think she's a balance of good and bad qualities like Gamby, not quite as malevolently evil as Russel (and even he admits he's selfish and doesn't think of others enough, and has a capacity for friendship).

This show does a good job of not putting too many characters into the "good" or "bad" categories, and giving each a side to show, each of them a point to play out.

You're right in saying Snodgrass is a purely good character, but then again, she's one of the least interesting characters on the show.

Brown, Russell, and Gamby are all much more interesting because they are flawed people with struggles at home that affect their work life. Even though Brown did force Gamby to fire a beloved employee, the show clearly demonstrated how behind-the-times she was, and how she couldn't keep up with the demands of her job any longer.

It was heart-wrenching, because Mrs.Libby was a sweet older lady, and very nice, but the school was still a workplace, and the digital way of doing things isn't going away (they mentioned she couldn't send a simple e-mail!). That episode did a great job of showing both sides of what was happening.
If you chose to see Dr.Brown as a monster because of it, that's your perspective, and that's fine. But keep in mind that these two did burn her house to the ground, and that they each show horrible qualities.

This is a dark comedy, and if they were morally competent people, we wouldn't be able to laugh at their mistakes.
