It was Ray

Shea Whigman often plays the role of the bad guy and his character was featured heavily in the finale, unlike other episodes. I think it was Ray.

I don't think it's Ray. If you watch Eastbound & Down, Ray seems like the equivalent of Kenny's brother who is an all around good guy. I'd really be shocked if it was him.

reply

Kenny's brother was nice because they were related. It's weird how Ray is so nice to Gamby ", despite the latter being so confrontational. In the episode, Ray even speaks about how he doesn't measure up to Gamby with Janelle.

reply

Being brothers doesn't always equate to being nice.

Anyway, I really don't think it's Ray. Jody Hill created a really nice moment in this last episode where Gamby gives his daughter the dirt bike. You could see in Ray's face how touched he was (by Gamby giving Ray back a way to connect with Gamby's daughter). It wouldn't make sense for Ray to hate Gamby after that.

Could be Abbott.

i'd bet it is. they made him way too nice and a cool guy lol

probably reasons we don't know yet.

He ever so nicely drove a wedge between Gamby and his daughter and ex wife over the season. The second Gamby made progress in his life with his daughter and ex wife, he gets shot.

I think Ray was purposely nice to drive that wedge, and when it started to fail, the truth came out.

Interesting. It very well could be. He has quite a lot of motive. But I would think if this is the case that Ray would want Gamby dead. And Ray strikes me as the kind of guy who can shoot straight and hit what he shoots at. The shooter left Gamby alive intentionally. This doesn't fit well with a Ray theory. If Gamby lives, his daughter is going to feel even more attached to him, not the opposite. In that scenario, Ray becomes even less important to Janelle.

I personally don't think so. I really like the actor. He's GREAT in Boardwalk Empire. However, him being in the show doesn't necessarily mean he'll play a bigger part than Gamby's verbal punching bag. He was in season 1 of True Detective, and I thought he for sure would be a main character. However, he was pretty minor.

Not Ray, it wouldn't be that interesting and he's genuinely a reasonable and level-headed character.

It's gonna be Gamby/Russell VS. Belinda in season 2, but the opposite way around, she'll be coming after them ("beast mode") instead of them coming after her. And it'll be great.

I think it is Ray also, only because Shea is just too big an actor to simply take this role without there being some additional twist to the character.
