Lee Russell the shooter?! Uh no, it's too obvious.
If this was a night time drams like Law and Order I would say yeah, it's Lee. This is dark comedy, so expect the unexpected.
I think that would be too obvious. I think it's Lee's weight lifting neighbor. He's credited for this episode, but doesn't appear anywhere.

The shooter really looked like they had a smaller build to me.

Wow. We see actors uncredited all the time, but do we ever see someone credited who does not appear? This convinces me that the neighbor is the prime suspect. I don't think he acted alone. He's just obviously a qualified hit man.

If it is Russell then they're rapidly morphing him into an identikit of Boyd Crowder, the character played By Walton Goggins in Justified. Both characters being charmingly loquacious with sensitive undertones but with a dark side where murder would be occasionally used as a business tool.

But now with the assassination attempt it's not funny anymore. At all. Sadly, because it was a good comedy so far.

I noticed the shooter did walk a little like Russel and turn his head like Russel but that does not prove anything. Why would Russel do that to Gamby right away when things were working out for them. Russel is not the type to just shoot someone like that either, he does not seem like the type that would even know how to shoot a gun or could hit anything. Look how he handled his neighbor who punched him and insulted his wife, he just talked to him, called the police, stepped over a line, and at most smashed his boom box with a bag of canned drinks. Now Russel is supposed to just shoot Gamby in cold blood right at school which will lead to all kinds of suspicion and investigation.
It would be hard to buy Belinda doing it too, burning the cars yes, shooting Gamby, no. She would have shot Russel, not Gamby if she was going to shoot anyone. If it turns out to be her or someone she hired someone then it would make her a terrible hated character and it would be totally out of character for her though I think they will play up the suspicion that it is either Russel or Belinda during the next season.
If they are really going for it to be believable who shoots Gamby and not just some kind of out there out of character act you have to think who really would hate Gamby enough to do something like that and who is messed up enough to do that. I think that leaves Ray who is a bit too nice and admitted to being jealous of Gamby and wanting to be close to his daughter plus he dressed as a mascot and in one episode showed he was a big fan of the rival school or the Spanish teacher fling who she would hate Gamby for leaving her and she is really cooky though she is unlikely the shooter, maybe she partnered with the History teacher but I doubt any of them would do it right at school. It could also be the muscle bound neighbor who would burn both Gamby and Russels cars because he hates them both but not sure why he would decide to shoot Gamby right in the school parking lot and not just do it somewhere more private.
Other options possibly is the other vice principals at the rival school/other principal ordering it though that is a little far fetched or maybe Gamby had it done to himself for some reason and that will be revealed next season.

He didn't aim to kill. He hit soft spots. Shoulder and lower right side. IF he aimed properly he missed the kidney. He didn't want to kill him, just get rid of him so he could be principle.
Russel was recording him in my belief when he kept accusing him of being the one who did everything.
Next season should be interesting but I do hope neither one gets away with what they did.

It takes practice and skill to hit a person in a particular spot just to wound them, Russel did not seem like the type who has ever fired a gun in his life or would even know how to properly aim. Wouldn't Russel have shot his a hole neighbor after insulting/intimidating his wife, insulting Russel, making his life miserable, threatening him, and punching him? We are supposed to believe Russel was such a pussy to the violent a hole neighbor but would suddenly shoot his partner, friend, and guy who helped him get promoted to his dream position? Why wouldn't Russel just shoot Belinda Brown especially when he heard she wants to fire him if he was a shooter? When Gamby told Russel that Brown was going to fire him Russel more or less was going to just give up and let Gamby have the job but Gamby decided to help him out, now Russel is just going to decide to seriously wound and possibly kill Gamby by shooting him in cold blood, it is out of character even for what we have seen of Russel though maybe they have not showed us a even darker side to Russel yet. I think they will play up the suspicion for Gamby it was Russel or Belinda but it was really someone else.

Gamby and Russell are still in each other's way when it comes to the job. They are only temporary acting principals. When the board makes its final choice it will probably select only one person to be principal. share
