I loved the ending

A complete change for a Disney movie.

Everyone is expecting everything to go back to normal but BOOM everything changes. Brilliant and pretty brave for a Disney movie.

When Brady walks past Mack without recognizing her, that was brilliant.

It made for a pretty emotional ending as the viewer knows everything that's happened to them but they don't know a thing.

Excellent point FanOfDC.

What the ending showed was that Mack and Brady are soulmates and are destined to meet no matter what. How instead of meeting in the summer and have their issues that they had at school, they can actually gradually get to know each other during the school year. It might actually make for a more solid relationship going forward.

That's a great take on it trojanheisman5.

It's pretty clear they were heading for a split because they were at school and no longer had surfing in common and real life had presented itself.

The only thing that seemed to tie them together was "Wet Side Story".

Overall it was a pretty grown up ending for a Disney movie and really seemed to veer off the usual sequel path.

I also enjoyed the ending, but it might be too mind-boggling for some of teen audience. A teen movie with consequence is a step above just the standard wacky antics and perfect couple. The movie started slow and was too much like a generic mismatch teen romance at first, but once the beach movie couple came to the "real world" and jazzed everything up, the movie started getting interesting.
