For the Record

I like these movies but I have to point something out.

In the original "Beach Party" movies from the 1960's that "Wet Side Story" is based on, the lead female character is played by Annette Funicello (the original Disney Girl)

Annette's character is intelligent, independent, strong willed, and does a lot more than just stand on the beach and wave.

Like many people today, the makers of these movies seem to have an erroneous, one-dimensional, caricature view of those movies and those times.

Good points. I think you are right that the writers of the second movie seemed not to realize what the character was really about.

Annette Funicello died a very, very short time before Teen Beach Movie aired and in fact when Teen Beach Movie premiered it opened up with a dedication to her (the dedication card has only ever been shown upon this first initial airing though, so it's impossible to find except for YouTube rips of the premiere airing).

I still have it saved on my cable box from the day it premiered, and I can at least get a still frame of that.

Lela was always supposed to be the Annette Funicello character, but Mack ended up being it instead and that's why the movie got so out of whack. That was the whole point of Teen Beach Movie in the first place. Apparently the writers of Teen Beach 2 (who are different from the writers of the first one) didn't realize that.

Gee, that's funny, because I thought that was also why the movie was getting out of whack in TB2.
