Lack of Antagonist (Villain)

Something felt off about this movie, compared to the first. I realized there was no real antagonist/villain in this movie. The first one had the mad scientist and his assistant. They were smaller supporting roles, but they were still important to the plot.

This movie lacked any real villains, but still had a far-out cartoony plot.

they existed to essentially make fun of the archetypes. kudos to them. you can tell they had a ball.

the conflicts came from Brady and Mac having difficulty being together because of their separate lives, Lela not wanting to return to a world where her life was decided for her and that world nearly going out of existence because of it. that was enough. it was the follow through though that I bring into question. after Wreck-It Ralph and Inside Out each ended with the characters just having to learn to adapt to the situation they were in, this movie chose instead to rewrite history and use that plot device to manufacture a happy ending. by the end of the movie, it didn't feel earned and it was a cop out.
