I get that the characters in WET SIDE STORY are parodies of characters from overly cute movies about having fun and nothing else, but what does that have to do with being stupid? Colleges existed in the 1960s.
shareMy mom said the same thing to me. I told her I assume he doesn't know what college is because he lives IN Wet Side Story... His life is just the movie over and over... And there probably isn't mention of college in his movie world. If that makes sense :)
shareIt was very common in the 1960s for teens, especially boys, to never consider college. Plus Tanner is not a real person, just a character in a movie and thus the sum total of his knowledge is within the script for that movie. If "college" never came up in "Wet Side Story" then none of them would know what it is.
It is important to recognize that we are talking about the character Tanner, not some actor who supposedly plays Tanner.
