Worried about the Future

It's not a spoiler to write that Solas is the major enemy in the next installment of this franchise.
It's disappointing because he is dull to me. At the end of "Trespasser" I felt like this game's writers were leaning way too hard into a "shades of gray" philosophy with him just to make him interesting. So we're supposed to defeat a boring guy who we feel ambivalent about? Wow. Compelling.
There is no mystery behind it like in Origins.
It seems like since Origins they just can't get a great main enemy. There was something that was awesome about the simplicity of a dragon that was actually the puppet of a god (supposedly). Now it's this jumbled mess of dullness.

I find there are many instances where sequels just aren't as good as originals. Origins had everything you could want in a great game. It had a great story, you could be so many different people with different backgrounds, and you could get lost in the story.

DA II was a joke. You could tell they rushed that one out the door with little thought or care. I've replayed Origins numerous times. DA II I replayed once. You've seen one cave or house you've seen them all.

Inquisition, all in all, was a "meh" game for me even before they screwed 360 users. They made it big just for the sake of it. While I don't mind side missions, I at least like to know I'm doing a filler mission that has no bearing on the end game, which 80 percent of this game was..filler missions. My first playthrough I put in 110 hours (120?). My 2nd playthrough I did just enough to get the power to unlock the next piece of the story and it took me under 40 hours to play it.

They dedicated so much time to giving us huge vistas to roam that the story and the characters suffered. The end battle with Corypheus was a joke. Solas being the Big Bad is no surprise whatsoever. We knew throughout the game who he was, we just didn't know why he gave his orb to Corypheus.

With the original writer gone from the series, I predict Dragon Age will go the way Mass Effect did when the original writer of that series left; it will be one big mess that puts a big stain on the entire franchise.

In 2's defense, that game was incredibly rushed and had to be done within a year. It had a lot of great ideas to it, actually, and is by far the best of the games on a conceptual level.

Agreed on Inquisition being too bloated with filler.

DA II was a money grab. They took no time at all to make it the game it could have been. While I don't hate it as some do, I'm not loving it.

It drives me nuts to see a game with so much potential being thrown out long before it should have been because EA is too greedy to care about the product they're delivering. Any fan of Origins was going to buy DA II. I bought it because I was sure it was going to be at least as good as the original was, if not better. Man, was I disappointed.

It looks like they devoted the time they should have spent on DA II on Inquisition. Inquisition was on the other end of the scale; too much time spent on giving us too much useless space while DA II was a game with too little time spent on giving us too little.

Wow, completely disagreed on Origins. I thought the archdemon was a pathetic, cliched, joke of a villain (I mean... it's literally a giant evil dragon  ) Thankfully that had Loghain to redeem it on the villain side, but even then, he's pretty one dimensional unless you recruit him

I also really like Solas, actually. Him being Fen'Harel is interesting and I enjoy how insightful of a character he is. His motives are also fascinating, especially if you win him over to at least appreciating humanity and he regrets what's going to happen. The character isn't super snarky and doesn't chew up the scenery, but I don't think it makes him any less interesting and I'm super excited for Dragon Age 4. And Solas definitely had more mystery to him up until this DLC where all the cards were laid out on the table vs. Origins where the end of the prologue says "Kill big dragon! Let's go!"

Ooh. I disagree about the dragon! He was an old god of an evil dragon with minions galore to do his bidding.  I can't really remember the last villain I really liked so having to fight the arch demon was all good for me. Not to mention I got my ass kicked numerous times before I finally nailed the bugger.

Solas was a bit wishy-washy to me. First the elven people aren't his people and then they are, then they aren't again and then they are again. He couldn't seem to make up his mind. I never quite understood why he hated the Dalish so much when he was willing to destroy the world to give the elven people their world back.

You tend to get a lot more out of this game if you play as an elf. My first playthrough was as a human and my 2nd playthrough was a female elf romancing Solas. I couldn't believe how much more information you get playing as an elf than you do any other character.

The lore in the game is great but I feel the story suffered for having them concentrate on making a world that was simply too big for no justifiable reason whatsoever.

Precisely. I'm playing through the game for the third time right now -- first as an elf. I'm enjoying playing as a mage because if anything my last dwarven reaver was TOO powerful.
Anyway, in Origins you knew precisely why you were in a given location, and there were set parameters and goals in each area. Even though I like this game and most of its infinite subquests, it's a bit too scattershot.
As you stated, Solas is all over the map, and his story alone is more complex than the entire story of Origins. I found myself muttering, "Alright, guys. That's enough" when they were just getting so bogged down in the minutiae of his backstory in "Trespasser."
