Connection between authors and their creations
I was mulling over the three writers and (same) three fictional characters.
I can understand Edward inventing Michelle, a frustrated writer whose efforts at creativity are being stifled by assumptions based on her past career. She's in a situation more or less like Edward's.
I can also understand Michelle writing about Emma, who is struggling, like Michelle, with both sexual objectification and a desire to break out of her unsatisfying life; whose creative urges are not given an opportunity, and whose boyfriend thinks very little of her. That also makes sense.
What I don't get is why Emma's "ideal man" is someone like Edward. He doesn't seem likeable, and he doesn't express anything about Emma's own life, as far as I can see. Am I missing something?
