"If your legs are open, close your eyes"

Can someone explain this to me? Maybe I'm overthinking why it's supposed to be funny. Is it a riff on how women (traditionally) weren't supposed to enjoy or want sex? But it's contrary to what's said in the movie elsewhere, about women taking charge in the bedroom.

I didn't really find the first movie funny, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the trailer for this made me cringe more than laugh.

The first movie was amazing. But it's cultural humor so it's not for everyone. I grew up in a very greek area, so I knew a ton of greek families just like this. That's why I find it hilarious and endearing.

I grew up in an Italian family, which in many ways, is similar so I loved the first one and will probably enjoy the sequel also.

"Vulgarity is no substitute for wit".

I was wondering the same thing.

that's exactly what i thought. and i think the mum gave information on the side. in mixed company she might reference the common refrain of 'lie back and think of england' or greece in this case but women tell each other a lot of things they never mention to men which is where this contradiction might come from

The way the trailer is edited, it looks like the line is said to the granddaughter, but that's not really the case.

Maria says to Paris: "Keep your eyes open, and your knees closed."
At that point Paris and her mother, Tula, leave.
Then the aunt says to Maria (who is remarrying Gus later that day): "If your knees are open, close your eyes."

Just in case it needs explanation: She is making a joke about the sight of a 70-year-old man naked in bed with you.

That's the trouble with trailers -They often create a false impression.

thanks for the explanation

I thought they were referring to oral sex lol

It was strictly intended for humor. Not an aged woman in my family doesn't joke about their aged hubby's 'libido'. Yes, only around the grownups. The men only compared notes before they actually matured. But that's a whole other topic.
