Classic coming-of-age film in Farsi and Hebrew
Although the setting was more exotic (1st-generation Israeli from Iranian immigrants), this is a classic coming-of-age movie where the son rebels against the traditional life that his father has set out for him.
The film was sub-titled in English, but one thing I didn't realize was that the family spoke Farsi at home and only spoke Hebrew to outsiders. However, in all of their interactions, Itzhak (the father) spoke Farsi to Moti (his son), but Moti only spoke to his father in Hebrew. This was noted by Navid Negahban, the actor who plays Itzhak, in a Q&A session at the Seattle Jewish Film Festival.
