When the day of the escape came and they all headed for the barb wire fences, Shouldn't they have been slightly more prepared than just pulling and pushing at the fences in the hope they would eventually collapse. By the time the fences did collapse the German guns had mowed a whole load of them down. Some bright spark did eventually produce some scissors to cut through the fence.
shareBut only a small amount of people were in on the plan. The rest only found out during the very last seconds when it was announced that their time had come. Also, these were all people who had no experience in military combat strategies, except for the Russians of course.
I've watched this a few times on PBS. The details come fast and a lot is packed into an hour. It's worth viewing more then once. I thought it was really good and I'm surprised that so far this is the only post on here.
