dogs?

I think I missed why he hated them???

It weakens us to not give our enemies the respect they deserve...

Warren Jeffs said God told him that dogs were all Hellhounds, related to Satan's wolves (?), so every single dog was rounded up, put into the pit, & the sheriff's dept killed them all.

Yep. Batsh!t freakin' crazy.

reply

Is this true? Did Warren Jeffs really arrange for all the dogs in his community to be rounded up and shot?

reply

yes it is true

reply

Thanks. That is just horrible.

I don't know what the big deal on tv lately is with killing dogs. Last night's pilot of "The Leftovers" on HBO featured, not one, but two scenes of dogs being shot. Between that and the very upsetting section of the dogs in the pit and the little boy's reaction to his dog being taken away in "Outlaw Prophet," I was very sad.

reply

There's other shows that are killing animals. I don't watch House of Cards, but I heard Kevin Spacey kills a dog & I'm watching Halt & Catch Fire. They've killed a horse, a bird & someone ran over an armadillo. I guess it's some type of symbolism? But there was no symbolism in this movie. What a monster.

reply

NPR did a story on increase of animal deaths in film. People have become immune to seeing people die on screen so they are using more animal deaths to evoke emotion/reaction..very sad all round

reply

The violence all around in movies & TV is too much for me. I don't watch or if a scene comes on like in this movie I leave the room. I'm so glad I don't have small children. Or big children.

reply

The children seeing the dogs shot the way they were...cruel, very very cruel!

reply

Glad I didn't see that!! ;-;
I have seen most of House of Cards, but not a dog-killing scene yet--again, fortunately. What IS with all of that? (An armadillo?! Nooo...!!) I guess sometimes it's supposed to be symbolic, and often it's probably aiming to induce a really emotional, visceral reaction in the audience, to drive home how diabolically wicked a character is and what they're capable of doing. Like, people get kind of inured to seeing fictional violence against humans, but watching a dog or cat suffer still hurts more deeply...and then oftentimes the human characters are deserving of it, or bringing it upon themselves in some way...whereas the nonhuman victims are almost always these innocent creatures just living until they're senselessly beaten or slain by some hideously cruel beast of a human, y'know? At least nowadays you don't have to worry about anything onscreen being actual abuse!

And back on Jeffs, he probably made up the nonsense about "situations involving dogs" or whatever. Raugh. Evil incarnate. >m< Getoboy was right on in everything he said under the "Disturbing" thread. Too bad they didn't get to make more arrests.

I read a crazy thing in a book about Warren Jeff's. It's called Escape by Carolyn Jessop. She tells how one time Warren had one of his wives tie up a cow, then in front of women and children she sawed off it's head while it was still alive. His reasoning? So in case a woman's husband does, she'll be able to take care of herself.

That's supposed to be dies not does

reply

Unbelievable. A sadistic demon, he is.

reply

WTF?!? My god, that's psychotic... AND it doesn't even begin to make a lick of sense!

She also wrote how they didn't believe in women going to the hospital to give birthday (which is why there are so many dead babies) and how one woman was given an episiotomy with sewing shears and sewn up with dental floss. They also train their babies to stop crying in a lot by holding them under running water until they have to catch their breaths and stop crying. Again why there are so many dead babies.

Oh, how horrible!!! He is a true psycho.

She had the saddest look I've seen in years, A kangaroo cry ~ Blue October

reply

Yes, he really did round up all those poor dogs and have them killed. He was a nut case bastard

reply

I literally fast forwarded that part. I mean what he did to those poor girls was evil enough but then to kill all those poor dogs!!?? I hope to god he is getting what he deserves in prison and then in the next life.

reply

Yes, unfortunately it's true. I believe it was mentioned in Elisa Wall's book that he had all the dogs rounded up and killed. If I remember correctly, she said it was because a child had been bitten by a dog in the community.
