70% of what?

I don't understand what the 70% they need to pass even is. 70/30 ratio yes to no? That doesn't make sense, because it wouldn't be a slowly increasing number like shown; it would fluctuate.
70% of people who check in saying yes? Wouldn't that cause some trouble if say 80% of people voted yes and the 21% boost from all three judges voting yes put their rating at 101%?
Maybe I'm just missing something fairly obvious but it doesn't make sense to me.

the maximum score is 121 not 100
you have % of check in who voted yes plus a 21 bonus points possible

I took it to mean that the judges are always 'checked in', meaning they have to vote (well, if they don't vote yes it's considered a no) and that they have 7% of the 'check-in', meaning the rest of America (well, the ones who check in) make up 79%. So the maximum would still be 100%, and a singer could get through even if all three judges voted no.

But I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out how the East Coast/West Coast votes work if the singer has already performed...

Anyone?

The experts are not part of the 100% "America" vote. Their votes are only counted like extra credit points. When an expert votes yes, a bonus 7% is added to the total. When an expert votes no, the score remains the same.

Like most people, I'm not totally clear on how West Coast voting works. The way I *think* it works is that the West Coast basically acts as the second chance crowd. If a contestant scores less than 70% in the East but gets 70% or higher in the West, the contestant is reinstated into the competition. The contestant only needs to score 70% in one time zone to advance.

I thought I saw the score jump by 7% when the judges voted (and their picture was added to the wall) but honestly I wasn't paying that much attention.

So they play the taped version from earlier? Do they West Coasters see how the rest of the country voted? It would be unfair to let them sing again live, in case they did something different, but the whole 'selling point' was that it was a live performance. And that puts the second chance contestants in a more difficult position, as they have less of an audience pool to draw upon. And why am I trying to overanalyze this, lol!!!

The West sees the same show as the East, just a few hours later.

Now that the second episode has aired, I'm starting to think I might have been wrong about the expert votes. None of the overall totals rose above 90% and I find it hard to believe positive home viewer totals would peak at 69%. So I guess the experts do hold a 21% portion of everything. Kinda cheapens the home participation aspect IMO, but meh.

Dash thats my understanding. So if u dont get all three judges u likely wont go through. Only saw first ep and highest score was 93%. That was including 21% from the judges.
