Why are they auditioning these singers and alleged singers? I guess it is supposed to be a talent contest but I swear I never heard anything about what they might win. Wouldn't that be something you would be mentioning prettily regularly?

As in, "You've won 84% of the vote tonight and a place in the next round where you'll have a chance at the {grand prize}!"

They usually supposedly win a recording-contract and perhaps a million dollars. Unfortunately if you're the winner on AGT that million is divided over forty years at $25k/year.
