Starting off with huge notes and/or screaming...

I understand that the contestants attempt to do this to gain the viewer's attention quick, but it is super annoying and always turns me off. I hate when they adjust the song just to start on the bigger notes...

I think it backfired on Joshua. After the overblown beginning notes, to go into a mournful ballad was jarring. But if he would have built up to a big finale, he probably would have gotten a couple of more points.
