Opening - Inglourious Basterds?

Does Rogue One's opening scene remind anyone of Inglourious Basterd's opening scene?

Nazis come looking for a girl they are looking for, she's hiding under ground, man tries to deal with them in a civil manner... both scenes take place in an open field / remote house.

reply

not so much the Basterds, as much as any Western flick that starts with the family getting murdered and revenge follows

"Au revoir Jyn!"

reply

Not really. Inglourious Basterd's opening was a slow tension-building act. Rogue One had nowhere near the amount of tension or build up. For that reason it never really reminded me of IG, despite the similarities in the general plot that you've pointed out.

reply

True. You have to invest time into the scene in order to create that kind of tension.

reply

Not really. What made the opening of "Basterds" suspenseful was that this clever-bastard Nazi seemed harmless and friendly, but he was so damn clever and manipulative that he wore through all his victim's defenses and got him to reveal all his secrets. The tension in the scene was completely interpersonal, a battle of wills that turned out to be one-sided.

Krennik just showed up with a bunch of thugs with guns.
