... But I'm curious as hell to see someone try and not make it too over the top. This is a book that at least 70% takes place inside a woman's head as she is cuffed practically naked to a bed. Maybe as the guy made Oculus he knows how to inter-cut so there's that.
Not to mention the dad flashbacks and necrophilia themes. I can't imagine those translating well to film, if at all. Especially the dad stuff...
I really want this to be a faithful adaptation, as it was one of the most terrifying book experiences I've had, but I don't see that happening. Big changes are going to have to be made in order to make this appropriate for audiences.
It's being distributed by Netflix, so I wouldn't worry. They are less inclined of making a profit because their films aren't usually released theatrically.
A large part of the success/failure is going to be up to the female lead and Corner Man, even though he is silent. I don't think there is much room to change this one; it is too emotional.
