Question

Last eps, 3 for me in the states.
Sidney was talking walking with the young Det and he was teasing him about his new lady friend and if he slept with her or not and if he can get married and then he asked if he was Catholic and he said rather forcefully, No.

I thought Vicars are Catholic.. I don't understand explain.
Did I hear that wrong.

Sidney is a Church of England (or Anglican) vicar, and the Church of England has not been Catholic (with a capital C) since the 16th Century.

In fact the English government spent a large part of the 17th Century executing Catholic priests, and didn't lift restrictions on Catholics and Catholic worship until the 19th century.

The ban on the monarch marrying a Catholic was only removed in 2013.

I know smoking, drinking and going on dates/having a girlfriend isn't a sin but I was like wow this Sid is doing the most on his time off. lol

In an episode a few weeks back the Dean mentioned the real life Rector of Stiiffkey (pronounced Stewkey) - now he was a very naughty boy and died while preaching from a cage of lions.
