It was really obvious to me that the film crew was there because of the BASE jumper who was planning to jump off the Everest summit in a wing suit - and then the story went another direction.

It was really obvious to me that the film crew was there because of the BASE jumper who was planning to jump off the Everest summit in a wing suit - and then the story went another direction.

That's partly true -- there was a film group there specifically for that planned stunt,. but the maker of this film originally was there to make a documentary about Phurba Tashi and yes, it went in a different direction.

She said this in an interview somewhere, you can probably google it.

So the Australian film-makers went there to film some idiot American wing-glide off Everest? No.

They went there to film the experience of Sherpas, probably based on the fight and tensions from the previous year. What they didn't plan for was the avalanche killing 16 Sherpas which brought the whole issue into sharper, more immediate focus.
