The season (Spoliers)

Ok, so I just finished this anime.

I want to know why people believe it was such a great anime? As I read up on it more and more people's beliefs are completely awry of mine. Here's why:

The beginning was great, showed mature traits and showed that this anime series wasn't going to be a little kids show like SOA. But as I get into it more, it's trying to fend itself off from being declared a harem but yet it was in such a way because Lubba was avoided most of the time. All the girls smudged up on Tatsumi. The story was decent. It conveyed what was really important in the end but yet what happened (The death of the main character) really felt stupid in my opinion. Like, he wanted to do a good thing but he really didn't need to die. Why did the creators kill him? As well as the yellow hair girl. (sorry I forget names real quick). The only survivor was really the person who should've died to make the anime amazing. In the last episode they mushed everything together, the defeat of the emperor, the defeat of esdeath, and the defeat of the minister. But uhm... If the creators just didn't pull a giant robot out of their ass to kill Tatsumi then I think we would've been ok. Perhaps killing off the yellow hair girl would've been alright, if it wasn't the way of getting shot. I mean yes it conveyed the fact that she grew up in the slums and she was showing how tough she was to this rich minister but come on. Ridiculous. I guess overall I am just upset with this anime. And to finish it, I liked how all the other dudes went but with Akame she should have died protecting Tatsumi while he was unconscious while killing esdeath. Having Tatsumi wake up to walk off to defend his friend's legacy. Just like with what Akame did.

Anywho, heard theres gonna be a second season, yippiee!

The show always tried too hard to elicit emotional weight from the viewer. Similar to Elfen Lied. This was a problem from the very first episode in how Tatsumi dealt with his friend's deaths, only to be cheery five minutes later. This was only compounded by the countless deaths throughout the series. So really by the end, I honestly wasn't even fazed by Tatsumi dying at the end.

At least Elfen leid committed to the scene at hand. As you said though, its so stupid to see a charter cracking jokes moments after their friends die.

When comparing the show I think of Kill Bill with Ninja Scroll. It starts off pretty normal but then it becomes something pretty amazing. No character was safe and I knew it could very well conclude with "someone on top of a pile of bodies" and that's one of the reasons I really enjoyed this show. Alot of characters died, popular characters and characters you might think are unstoppable, and they could die at any moment of the show, but they kept adding new characters on both sides which was cool. It's funny that almost every time someone is about to die their "true power" surfaces and the other character ends up getting killed. I also enjoyed that this show would have some really deep emotional and heartfelt scenes but that's kinda expected with all the deaths involved.

Also a few minutes after Tstsumi died protecting those people his Scarface was wasted because Esdeath killed most if not all of them with that wall of ice.

That was even more messed up considering how much she cared for him.
