Regina is acting a variant of herself

She didn't make a good physical acting. Is like she is on real life or in her horrible sunday show. Her voice, her manners and her gestures in the movie are exactly the same in real life.

Its a sad thing, my friend. Unfortunately, most people choose what movie to see based on how famous the people in it are. I tend to do the contrary. I didnt see this movie yet, but I certainly aint excited to see a movie with Regina Case. That woman is a shame to Brazil as a nation.

Seems that every single movie that has been released in the last 3 years or so are terrible (mostly simulating old and overused holywood formulas), and with the same terrible actors that are only in it because they are famous. I rather see no-name actors than sit for two hours with those unbearable celebrities. Or, at least bring Wagner Moura and Lazaro Ramos back.

Oh well, but seems that in the US it aint much different. I swear, I'll throw myself on the ground if I have to see another comedy with Jennifer Aniston with the same plot.

reply

Ahm. Lazaro Ramos and Wagner Moura are pretty much soap opera actors as well.
THought you were going to say Irandhir Santos that was the true star in those northeast brazillian cinema pole from the retomada.

reply

You are saying that without having seen the movie. That's the definition of prejudice. Actually Regina Casé did very well.

reply

Sorry man, but I watched the movie today and an Oscar nod for her performance was all I could think then.

reply

I disagree. The strong element in her character is the body language, and it was perfect in every way. You can see how Val is tired and weak just watching the way she walks and moves and she has an expression of sadness and frustration.

I do not like ESQUENTA, but Regina Case in the TV-Show is far different from VAL.

reply

I agree. I don't know anything about this actress. I'm not Brazilian. Maybe prolonged exposure to her would lesson my enjoyment of her work, but I absolutely loved her in this. She was incredibly captivating to watch. Especially her body language. She seemed genuinely free and emotive and expressive. She reminded me so, so much of my elderly Argentinian neighbor, who I adore.

Loved the flick, and she really made it sing for me.

Maybe I'm just a foreigner who doesn't know better, but I only have my personal experience to judge from.

reply

I don't agree, she is totally diferent in the movie

reply

I also think she's totally different in the movie, when you watch her in "Esquenta" you can see she actually disappears in the character, she's brilliant

Konam.. "A shame to Brazil as a nation"
Wow.. Really? I have no idea what you mean by that. I just can only tell you, you guys should appreciate a little bit more the talent and quality of some of the art that comes from your country. I thought this movie was outstanding and her performance is by far, the best this year anywhere!

reply

It´s a shame that some people talk s*** about a person just because she was wrongly exposed by media.

reply

Just the same while presenting "Esquenta" or anything.

What a moronic post by a pseudo-intellectual who obviously doesn't know anything about Regina Case. She's a fine comedienne who also exudes more empathy than most Brazilian actresses. She's charismatic, knows how to improvise, and isn't ashamed to be popular among the lower classes (hence the popularity of her TV shows all these years).

She's also incredibly intelligent, cultured, and has been acting on stage, TV, and in
film for four decades. I have immense respect and admiration for her. "A shame to Brazil as a nation" would be: political corruption, underage prostitution, 'funk
music', and the ignorance of people lile the OP.

reply

First of all, I'm not the OP.

Secondly, you complain about funk music, but the "music" that is displayed in the TV show where she is the hostess is not much better. That TV show simbolizes like nothing else the culture of a poor third world country like Brazil. It is a vivid , unadultered picture of the masses, at its uglier face. I do understand the ignorant masses exist everywhere but in a third world country like Brazil not only it takes such a high amount of the inhabitants, but it also sinks to unprecedent levels.

I will not lose my time digging more into Regina Case's past, but I remember her presenting some other pretty questionable shows, so excuse me If I am prejudiced against her. I would feel the same about watching a movie with Tony Ramos.

Please, show us why do you think she is incredibly inteligent and cultured?
