Can't trust the fanboys

Fanboys told me over and over to ignore the naysayers who weren't pleased with the 2014 film. They insisted it was awesome and 10X better than the Matthew Broderick movie and "hands down the BEST American Godzilla EVER!!!"

Then I saw the movie. It went downhill after Bryan Cranston died. The characters and plot were a boring waste of time after that. Godzilla got a 15 min. cameo IN HIS OWN MOVIE. It should have been called "MUTOs, with a Special Guest Appearance by Godzilla". Overall the "horrible" Matthew Broderick movie was slightly better-- at least it was entertaining and funny.

Now the fanboys are all over the internet posting glowing feedback about the 2019 Godzilla movie. They say we should ignore all naysayers who weren't pleased with the movie. They are instead claiming it is awesome and 10X better than the 2014 movie that they PREVIOUSLY claimed was awesome at the time. Now they say THIS movie is " "hands down the BEST American Godzilla EVER!!!"

Sorry, fanboys. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Leave Godzilla to Japan from now on. Thanks, Hollywood.

It's almost as if people have different opinions? What a shocking concept.

And here's another opinion...there is no way in hell that the disastrous 1998 Matthew Broderick Godzilla was better than the 2014 Godzilla, which was a superior film in every way.

The 2014 is a better made film than the Broderick film and it has an amazing third act. But it’s still hampered by the lackluster cast after Cranston died-I’m still surprised they did that. I still liked it fine. But I also liked the characters in the ‘98 Emmerich film better.

reply

You liked the characters from the 98 film better?! WOW! i couldn't hold a gun to peoples heads that would get them to admit that but you came right out & said it. My God, that's deep. Between the faux American hating Frenchman, the annoying girlfriend who was a ditz, a horrible lead, with all the stupid "wormguy" jokes & classifying Godzilla as a Allosaurus for Pete's sake, you couldn't make a worse film if you did it on purpose which I believe that they did.

reply

Sure you could. It's called Sharknado.

It's a monster movie for crying out loud, the "fanboys" as you put them, me included, are going to like this despite the negative reviews because we know that his has what we want. Bunch of monsters stomping around & fighting each other, yeah I'll ignore the critics & consider myself good to go with this. What the hell were they expecting? Shakespeare?

Even with that said the Roland Emmerich film was a travesty & I was willing to overlook many things but it was so dumb, even I hated it. Say what you want but this delivers on the goods, a lot of monsters, monsters fighting & good special effects. Not much more is needed for a Godzilla movie. What were you expecting? Independence Day? Come on now.

reply

I'm a Godzilla fanboy who liked G14 but disliked G19. Maybe that means that you will like it.

I personally disliked it because they did a disservice to the monster fights. Too short. Kept snapping back to human drama which was characteristically worthless (and fine for that. I expect that. just not THIS much). The effects looks phenomenal but they directed the fights into the garbage heap. I'd like to see a fan edit with ALL the monster scenes back to back. That would make for a possible B+.

So in closing, it is not a very well made monster movie. You might love it.

reply

Yeah, stupid back and forth between useless humans and the actual fights that I wanted to see without interruption every 0.5 seconds was the worst and ultimately ruined the movie for me, I could ignore the stupid characters and useless drama, but I cannot ignore when they ruin my Kaiju fights.

Pacifim Rim did the best Kaiju fights in the recent history. I'm shocked they wouldn't hire Del Toro to make a Godzilla that we actually deserve.
FFS, even Kong: Skull Island had better Monster Fights and visuals and that movie wasn't that great to begin with.

YOU'RE GODDAMN RIGHT!

You dumbass ...😂😂

I remember when the reviews came out and everyone got defensive over this movie before they even got to see it.
Well, the critics were right. It's an awful, loud, obnoxious movie.

reply

Very true. The movie sucks. I had to skip through the obnoxious dialog. The monster fights were ok but short.

reply

Yeah, this movie sucked hard. But yet Japanese Godzilla movies are actually as bad.
