Comedy of Absurd and Surrealism?

So as I was watching this, the first couple episodes didn't strike me as amazing. As a couple people on this board said, I felt like Rob was borrowing from other comedies like Louie and Maron. However, as I got about 3 or 4 episodes in and examining the relationship with his wife, how he treats his assistant and other people, and how he has a functional working relationship with his stalker it hit me... this is Absurdism.

The show is called Real Rob. Rob plays himself, and even casts his real wife as his wife in the show, and probably uses his real child. However, the situations he gets himself into aren't even close to being realistic. The relationship between his wife, in the show itself seems to be non functional and damaged yet they always seem to be happy. There is also the way Rob treats non-famous people and the way non-famous treat him is also quite interesting. There is also this really interesting relationship between Rob, his assistant, and his stalker--the roles of the stalker and assistant seem to be oddly reversed, it's very surrealistic.

I'm 5 episodes in and I think this show is genius thus far. It started off a bit rocky but wow I am really digging it. I honestly hope this catches an audience because I'd like to see more.

I am on episode 6 and I totally agree with you its genius in the vein of Curb Your Enthusiasm

It's essentially Curb with a slightly less conscientious lead. It's quite funny and further proof that Schneider is an underrated comedic actor.
