Start Kid V's End Kid? [Spoilers]

Since the kid doesn't remember anything from the carnival of the previous year and at it (talking to his mom before Nic took him) he wanted to be Robin Hood. Is this a nod to that's not actually their kid since at the end he say's his Dad says he can be a superhero? Presumably at that point of his dad's relief to see his son again would amount to him being ok if his son wanted to be a ballerina next year so it was his sons suggestion.

Or was Cage's characters first dear words to his son who was missing for a year. "You should dress up as a superhero next year!"
