A dig at American imperialism?

This may be a popcorn blockbuster with a big budget and special effects, but a smart director can sneak in a political message. The attack on the island lead by SLJ's team could possibly a comment on American imperialism. Invading a foreign land, dropping bombs and generally upsetting the apple cart has consequences. The natives, even if they come in a shape of Kong are going to fight back and put you in a hurt lock. It is no accident that the film was set in 1973 when America called it quits in Vietnam.

IMHO it always was. Even in the 1930s, the original story is about a bunch of Ugly Americans invading some island because they wanted to make money, and finding that their greed leads to far more harm than good.
