The attack on the island lead by SLJ's team could possibly a comment on American imperialism. Invading a foreign land, dropping bombs and generally upsetting the apple cart has consequences. The natives,even if they come in a shape of Kong are going to fight back and put you in a hurt lock. It is no accident that the film was set in 1973 when America called it quits in Vietnam.
