Amazing Scientific Discovery. Shoot It!

From the moment all the helicopters started shooting at Kong I lost all interest in this movie when I saw it at the theater. Just now watched that part again to make sure I didn't miss anything that would explain why. Nope. Just a big shoot-em-up to give muscle heads in the audience a woody.

They fly into this uncharted island, start dropping incredibly destructive "seismic sensors."
Then they see an awesome gigantic creature, possibly a newly discovered species, and don't think to fly out of his reach but just open fire to kill it. And the scientists don't seem to be concerned about this.

Total crap.
