Are non-Trekkies familiar with the term "Redshirts"?

Because this movie was better than I expected it to be, better than the last two remakes if not great, but damn.

That boatload of soldiers was SO obviously a pack of redshirts put there to get killed in entertaining ways, while the main characters will just as obviously survive until the finale.

I've never seen a Star Trek and, before your post, did not know the term 'redshirts'. Yes, I did wonder why the military was 10 helicopters when he asked for an escort.

I'm halfway through and am impressed with the (I guess) CGI. That octopus fight was cool. Looked very real.

I was very impressed with the CGI too. All the fight scenes were incredible.

Not exactly although it does sound familiar.

And yes, thrilling and well-crafted movie. Perhaps my favorite Kong.
