Got really dumb with that Dog attack ?

This show started great but it just didn't make any sense when it got to episode 5 ?
That scene when they let the Dog (Switch) to attack the soldier, there is no way that Angel chick standing with a Gun would have just stood there and watch the Dog just bite the Soldier's hand and give Hap and Leonard time to hit her with a shovel. On top of that why would Hap and Leonard run to the woods when they finally get these two killers on the ground?.. That scene just ruined everything that followed and it just lost it and got really DUMB.
