unfortunate

the basic idea for the story is great and it could have become such an amazing film. unfortunately the makers seem to have run out of ideas.

another thing that bothered me, was that they seem to not be conclusive in regards to if the film was supposed to be funny or serious. this could work as either, but not as both. well, or maybe it was meant to ber serious and the overacting and some ridiculous events just made it look comedic to me.

Although it plays it straight to the very end it's clearly a satirical, tongue in cheek take on an overdone genre (did we really need "The Ghost Dimension [or its predecessors...]?"). The 12-step schtick is absurd ("We don't use the "D" word here!"), having her "make amends" to people she'd almost killed (her family getting rid of the ones she did kill), the jerk who prefers her as a demon, & etc. -- just seeing Carol Kane again was worth it... and Deborah Rush ("...ginseng"), although both could have had more scenes.

I didn't laugh out loud much but it held my interest for 90 minutes, which is more than I can say for a ton of other recent flicks. Not a great movie but more original than epic drivel like Hunger Games, Insurgent/Detergent, and other big grossing yawn-fests.

That's only my opinion, one of many...

"Most actors only dream of having Maggie Smith compliment their jumpers."

Yeah I agree. It wasn't GREAT but certainly interesting and fun to watch. I do think funny and serious works pretty well here even though the movie could have been polished more. The dialog could have been better, more gore and scary scenes would have been more fun, the comedic timing could have been better and the overall direction was a bit off.

But because it's original it's easy to forgive those flaws.

Lots of horror movies work as both. American Werewolf and Evil Dead 2. You don't seem very smart.

this doesn't. same goes for you. ;)

Yep, I thought the same! It had great promise as a satire. Wish they had kept up that theme.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Admittedly I am not into possession horrors. And I am into urban fantasy books with a similar humor. In those the heroines tend to acknowledge the irony of their situation whether or not it's life threatening. So I came at it from that perspective, and would enjoy a sequel or a series where her and her demon come to some kind of terms they are both satisfied with. He did seem to be nudging her towards the truth near the end.
