Ava and her sister seem close, why ....

I don't get why Jillian would have deliberately caused Ava's possession. They seemed pretty close and supportive of one another. Was her sociopath fiance attracted to Ava? I mean, they didn't have an affair (until she was possessed), so I don't think that was a reason.

The end, I just took for a typical horror-ending jump scare. Like the AA leader said, being possessed once makes it much more likely to happen again (even though she'd defeated the demon once).

Anyone have any ideas about why the sister would do this?

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

It is unclear to me as well.

I was somewhat distracted during parts of the film so, I thought I might have missed an important reveal.

I do recall at the very beginning that Ava's sister seemed snarky and put upon when Ava was talking to her family as they cleaned up and ate dinner.

I figured that her fiancé / husband had pressured her in to it so that he could have his way with her. He may have know this from stories of her mother's possession.

They also said that any magic with any intention could invite it in, I wish they had made the ending a touch more clear. But it seems to me that her families perspective was that this would help her get her life together... And it kind of did...kind of lol

The mom was possessed so it's genetic. The sister knew she'd be next in line. So she used the same black magic spell Ava had used for Hazel on Ava so that she would be the one possessed and not her.

The fiance *may* have shown attraction towards Ava for awhile which could have made Jillian jealous. But he didn't sleep with her until he ran into her in the van. So I think Jillians overall intentions in summoning the Demon for Ava wasn't ultimately about him it was about not wanting to be next.

The ending was Ava summoning the Demon in anger that her mom never told her the truth and also realizing what Jillian did to her, so she brought the Demon back probably to tell it to go after her sister.

I think she controlled the demon. I could be wrong but my interpretation was somehow, when she put the necklace on, her and the demon worked as one like Hazel was talking about (they worked as a team instead her fighting it off and it fighting to gain power) So Ava was under possession while talking to the fiance but she tricked him, asking him about the hookers, acting like she was going to seduce him but instead attacked him and then took off the necklace. I think the Demon was done with her after the priest got rid of it. It was showing her signs and stuff who knows it could also have been doing that to Jillian. It may have been showing signs of coming back but for Jillian this time.

But at the end when the Demon comes and screams, and Ava screams, she wasn't screaming in fear, she was screaming in anger after seeing the file which brought it all to light to her. She saw the mark on her sister, and probably realized it was prob Jillian who "accidentally" brought the demon to her by messing with black magic. But once she saw her moms file she realized it wasn't accidental, she did it on purpose because she knew it was genetic and said eff this I'm going to try have Ava get it before me and it worked.

I think this sum-up is correct. It all seemed pretty clear to me.

The only thing I didn't really understand was why Roger hired Conrad to kill her. Because they'd had sex together with a prostitute? Doesn't seem like sufficient reason. He could just lie about it in the unlikely event she ever told her sister.

"Here, with a special report, is a midget in a bikini."

Saying it could be genetic, showing her mark and showing the mothers file doesn't make it coherent. Why did the sister have the mark. Was it passed down

You get a mark on you anytime you just play with black magic. Her sister got the mark from playing with magic not from getting the gene their mom had.

Um...Spoiler Alert
