Decent movie despite... (spoilers)

tons of unanswered question.

We are never given any backstory on Bo. What was he doing in Africa? What was his mission" Who WAS he?

No explanation of "the dish" or his tattoo of it. None! He and Nadia traverse hundreds of KM to get there and figure is out. When they get there, it's pretty much destroyed but they don't even go in to garner some clues/intel. Nothing is ever revealed about it.

Relating to that, some were saying the droids/aliens were possibly not from another planet but were man made (dish related). That is never answered either.

Bo and Nadia encounter several downed droids but they don't even look them over to see if maybe they could glean ways to fight them.

What/who were the aliens and what did they want? No explanation is ever given. What we do know is the droids round people up and the "mother ship" sucks them up into it. Why? No idea. What happens to them? No idea.

The resistance destroys the "mother ship". Was it the only one? No idea but it seems unlikely since pretty much the whole world was decimated and that one ship seemed too small to inflict that kind of global damage and definitely too small to carry enough of the droids they were using for ground warfare.

There are scenes of jet fighters flying around but they don't ever attack the droids. Why? And why no helicopters? It seemed that helos could be very effective against them.

Roderick discovers that the mother ship and droids can be defeated by an EMP. The entire PLANET'S military force and scientists couldn't figure that out? Seriously?

Despite all that, I did enjoy it. Not sure why.

Bo was an american soldier on a mission, what kind of, god knows. But as the reporter talk about kid soldiers, we can assume the country is already in a civil war for longer time and the soldiers were likely stationed for peace keeping/protecting American interests. When the Aliens atacked, they were sent on special missions. Again, thanks to the reporter exposition dump the whole attack is not yet so long ago, i would say 2 weeks max, maybe the full invasion just started in the start of the movie and he was knocked out for few days.
The dish etc is driven by the aliens, when they changed him, they installed the tracker on him and his brain got overloaded. You can see how he even carve the arrow into his skin during the overload. So he was driven subconscious to important places, so that the aliens could harvest the people along his way.

What the aliens do with people? Eating! Basically like in the Skyline franchise. This already happend in War of the Worlds and Tripods - also never explained.
And it was unlikely the big big mothership, but just their country mothership. Couldn't the US e.g. fight them? We never see pictures of them, only messages. The aliens all feels pretty weak in the movie, but this is Africa. Would I be an alien invasion force, my prime trooper would also unlikely go there. So we can only assume from what Nadia tell us, that Washington was destroyed. If they were No 1 target, they were likely destroyed without any warning, same for all other mayor countries with an effective force. Were all destroyed? No one knows, but it's unlikely that they had time to inform third world countries while they fight the major forces back.

The jet fighter is the only thing I also don't understand. Mayve they belong to the aliens?

tldr: Feels like a rejected script for Skyline 2. Could be likely even retroactively integrated.

Why you enjoyed it? Lee Pace, the only disappointing role of him for me yet is the MCU Ronan.
