Thanks for posting this article, I'd read so many but not this one and it is more detailed. He sure as heck kept it 100.

What is the "keep it 100" nonsense? I'm not up on tween Ebonics.

reply

First, fwiw, I'm a middle aged white person (most of the audience for the show was both times I went also). Keeping it 100 was a big part of the show. Why are you on a board for a show you obviously never watched?

reply

dexx is just a racist/sexist out for a troll.

reply

Yes, it was such a big part of the show that literally no one gave a shyt about it or the show. And it was the totally opposite of what it meant. If someone kept it 100 and the crowd disagreed, they got booed and a tea bag. If someone pandered with some BS SJW message they got some dumb sticker.

This show was a total embarrassment from top to bottom and a disgrace to "comedy." Wilmore should never work in front of the camera again. He's a terrible actor (so every skit sucked), a sub par host, one of the worst panel mediators ever, and his comedy is so hacky and one note, he's easily replaceable. Any idiot from the block can do what he did. Read those stupid lines and have the point of view of an ignorant dumbass with a chip on their shoulder and total bias, along with zero new insight or a fresh perspective. The best he could muster was some phony outrage over Cosby long after he was already exposed by Hannibal Buress, who didn't act like a douchebag or petulant child over it. He actually *gasp* made funny jokes about Cosby.

reply

Can I request that you be more careful with the word "literally"? And since you call yourself "Citation_Needed," can you cite some evidence for your claim?

Thanks.

reply

Evidence? The show was canceled due to abysmal ratings and couldn't even generate any interest on supplemental forms of revenue, like youtube or the CC website. You have to be a complete idiot to need this evidence brought up to you.

reply

You sound very angry, Citation_Needed. Maybe a soothing cup of tea or a glass of wine would help. Ah, good. Now I kindly ask you to allow idiot me to offer some stats from Wikipedia about The Nightly Show's ratings.

Average live viewers:

January 2015: 885,000
February 2015: 849,000
March 2015: 726,000
April 2015: 634,000
May 2015: 615,000
June 2015: 708,000
July 2015: 773,000
August 2015: 605,000
September 2015: 405,000
October 2015: 489,000
November 2015: 489,000
December 2015: 516,000
January 2016: 511,000
February 2016: 564,000
March 2016: 548,000
April 2016: 527,000
May 2016: 532,000
June 2016: 547,000
July 2016: 541,000

From this I conclude that the show's ratings did indeed, and predictably, go down from the initial interest after the departure of Stephen Colbert, then fluctuated at the half-million level. So it is understandable that Comedy Central canceled the show, but these numbers are not "abysmal," given the time slot, nor do they suggest that "no one" was watching.

I would also like to offer, if you will allow me even though I am an idiot, that I never watched the show live and was probably not the only one who watched it regularly online the next day or later.

Those numbers are terrible. You must be an idiot to think otherwise. Shows in reruns get better numbers than that. And god only knows how much of those viewers merely fell asleep with the TV on, being bored to death from watching the Daily Show.

reply

Ok, so maybe a cup of tea or a glass of wine won't do it for you, Citation_Needed. Maybe a trip to the spa? Binge watching Freddy Krueger movies? Also, you might try www.thesaurus.com to find synonyms for "idiot."

I cut the cord years ago so never watched it live either.
Caught every episode online and I'm sure my viewing was never counted in the ratings.

Steady 1/2 million+ viewers in that time slot was what it got before Colbert Report and for a show that dealt in minority opinions with a large focus on a younger audience, that is leaving cable for online media, that was pretty decent ratings.

The two previous shows in that time slot were Tough Crowd with Colin Quin

and Too Late with Adam Carolla which both averaged between 500 and 600 thousand viewers.

Good to know, Furrerd. Thanks for the stats. My husband and I participated for more than a year (2015-16) in an Arbitron data-gathering study in which we wore devices that recorded our radio listening and tv viewing. I told them right from the start that I watch TV mainly on line and also listen to the radio mainly on line. They said, OK, so be it, but that meant all they got from me was NPR or a local rock station on my way to and from work.

Well said, this show was white guilt garbage...by a black guy.

reply

"White guilt garbage", my a**. Tired of ignorant white folks like you thinking black people only talk about race and racism to "guilt" white people---that is some straight-up bull**** and you know it. We're sick and fckg tired of having to deal with that s*** because white people keep on being racist because they were able to get away with it for so long---like the first 300 damn years of this country's history. If race isn't a damn problem, then why the fck has it been such a huge issue over the past couple of years with police shooting and all? Race has ALWAYS been a big issue in America, because WHITE people have always made it an issue, literally from day one. Clueless idiots like you shouldn't have s*** to say about it period-----fools like you always think race shouldn't be an issue only because it's not an issue FOR YOU. Fck that. As long as racial profiling keeps getting innocent black people (like Philando Castile, Akai Gurley, Tamir Rice) killed by white police simply BECAUSE they're black, it will ALWAYS be a big damn issue. If you don't care about the issue, then just SFTU about it,then. Nobody asked your worthless opinion about it,anyway.

I am on your side, activista, but you need to calm down. Dexx whatever is either just a troll or an ignoramus. Don't waste your time on white trash like him. They are hopeless. Post to those, just for instance, who think the show had bad ratings because it didn't appeal to white millennials. Or post to those, who are already in support of Larry and the show to express why it is important to you that Larry spoke for you.
