Racism aside. The show plain sucked!

I'm happy this show is canceled. I was so disappointed when I first saw it air and it's only gotten worse. Hopefully Comedy Central can bring a decent news show that doesn't suck after this terrible show.

reply

I liked Wilmore's segments on the daily show. But his nightly show was one dimensional. All he did was talk about race. His pundits sucked too. They weren't likable. The skits were god awful and even Larry looked uncomfortable. The great thing about Stewart is that he goofed on EVERYBODY. Wilmore didn't learn that from his predecessor and now he's done after one season. Pathetic.

reply

Race needs to be talked about, even though White people don't want to.

reply

It needs to be talked about intelligently. So this show completely failed. They completely refused to acknowledge facts or even bother to look them up. It was random speculation, jumping the gun, and lumping all issues into one and calling it a pattern of racism whenever something happen to a black person. Real nonintellectual garbage. If I wanted to listen to crap like that, I'd go to the street corner and hang with Sweet Dick Willy and his crew, at least they were funny morons.

The only people who can support Michael Brown are idiots who don't know what happened, or racists who think every black person deserves special treatment and every benefit of the doubt imaginable and unimaginable. What a joke. Good luck getting any support with that kind of basis. All it does is fuel the racist white side who think blacks are stupid low lives who support criminals and thuglife.

And this show added nothing new to any social issues. It was just repeating what has already been said on the news/twitter/facebook/blogs/other satire shows/youtube comments/reddit/etc. Comedy Central already has shows that cover all that (daily show, @midnight, Tosh.0). It doesn't this poor knockoff. I can't count how many times Wilmore repeated a joke said 20 minutes earlier on the Daily Show about Trump or something else. What a waste. Stewart and Colbert never had that problem, because they weren't lazy.

reply

You obviously never watched the Nightly Show. I watched every episode and Larry covered a vast array of political and social issues over the 2 seasons his show ran. No where else did I see them giving the back ground on Pokemon Go and it's unusual development history during one of Mike Yard's segments.

As for Mike Brown, you obviously didn't read enough about what happened in Ferguson to understand why Brown is an icon.
He is a Daniel Shay against the illegal taxation of Ferguson which had been violating the Canfield resident's rights to fair taxation and representation by placing cops in their dead end apartment complex street to write a non stop stream of tickets and fines. An average of 3 per resident of the entire city each year.
Brown was not a perfect young man and neither was Shay or Bonnie and Clyde, for that matter, but they are treasured icons and symbols of rebellion all the same.

Brown raised his hands and then his fists in revolt against the Ferguson police department that was oppressing the residents of Canfield apartments day after day. Since his death hundreds of unarmed young blacks have died at the hands of the police and hundreds of thousands of blacks are still being illegally taxed and fined and put into debtor's prisons. 30% of the people in jail in St Louis County are there for debts they can't pay and the majority of them are Black.

Black Lives Matter is a movement born in part of our marching in Ferguson and it's not going away no matter how much you shake your fists in white rage. Brown's death was a match that lit a pyre and it doesn't matter now how imperfect he was. The situation in Ferguson was unbearable and it led to an insurrection.

Oh, Hey, little guy. I hope you haven't had a heart attack or seizure over the postings on this board. I know it is hard for you when you are posting without actual statistics about what you are claiming, even though your handle is Citation_Needed.

As a middle school English teacher, I want to praise you for increasing your vocabulary from "idiot" to "retard" to "moron." Please keep reading the thesaurus, and proofread your posts. You are really making progress!

The show pretty much operated on facts,it wasn't that bad of a show, and you need to do some real research on the Mike Brown case to find out why it set off the riots in Ferguson. First of all, yeah, he did a stupid thing and took those cigarillo things, which was stupid, but there is some question as to whether the police officer even knew that he had stole something to begin with. According to Brown's friend, the police officer was the one who yelled at him to get out of the street when they were doing nothing but walking, and escalated the situation by nearing backing up over them and grabbing Mike Brown and starting a fight with him, then shooting at him while he still held on to him. Here's the grand jury testimony of Mike Brown's friend on what really happened that day:

reply

Brown assaulted a store clerk. Not this gentle giant turning his life around stuff.

reply

If you think Michael Brown's "Friend" testimony is fact, you are too far gone to even waste time correcting (But I'll do it for anyone else reading). EVERY other witness saw differently. That liar was the only one who came up with the bullshyt hand ups, don't shoot.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hands_up,_don%27t_shoot

Just stop. It's pathetic, like this show's attempt at humor or facts. Because of people like you and Brown's classless father (who should be in prison), a town was turned into a warzone over some piece of shyt, drugged up, thug. What a fuqqin disgrace. Over what? LIES from more criminals and racist criminal sympathizers.

Hi Citation Needed:

Your 7th-grade English teacher here again. You have regressed in your vocabulary readiness since I last encouraged you for using "IQ mutant" instead of "idiot" and "moron." Your use of "fuqqin disgrace" is somewhat creative but still not much of an improvement and in addition violates school standards of civil discourse.

I have cc'd this to your vice principal.

I really appreciate that you provided a source for your assertions, Citation_Needed. Not sarcastic. Keep it up.

I think it's likely that Brown's family and friends and the Ferguson Police were both trying to cover for their side in a hot and complicated incident that we may never get justice for on either side.

Yes, it s amazing "black lives matter" riots and loots over criminals being shot by police but ignores gang violence.

reply

You can't recognize that they are separate issues? BLM has every right to expect police to serve and protect! Even if someone has committed a crime (though many recent cases they hadn't), the police do not have the right to be executioners. The justice department findings in both Ferguson and Baltimore should have been enough to end this ridiculous argument.

reply

They aren't separate issues. The fact that there is so much black on black crime is why cops (of ANY color) are terrified when they come across black youth either acting or appearing as gang members. But no one wants to address that issue and save a lot of lives, so cops don't have to be forced to leave things to chance, and hope the one thug they come across isn't a violent anti-social criminal sociopath like the rest. Which is not going to happen.

We've had a few examples where there WERE innocent black men wrongly shot, and THERE WEREN'T EVEN RIOTS over them. That just tells you who is really upset here. Not the black community, just a subculture of ghetto ass thugs who would rather rot in prison, resist, or have the chance to run from cops, than be put out their misery and saved tax dollars being shot and killed by cops doing their job. No one even knows their names. Instead we have to remember scum like Brown, Gray, Trayvon Martin, and that fat worthless bastard Eric Garner. They don't deserve any attention and the people who killed them should be hailed as heroes, not vilified.

reply

> We've had a few examples where there WERE innocent black men wrongly shot, and THERE WEREN'T EVEN RIOTS

First thugs are just rioting because they are thugs and don't actually care about social justice.
And now not rioting is proof that people don't really care about social justice.

Hhhm. There seems to be a common theme here, but I can't quite put my finger on it...

reply

but I can't quite put my finger on it...
Maybe if you got your finger out of your ass, along with your head, you would see the common theme. But nope, that wouldn't agree with the narrative you want to hear, so you play mental gymnastics and avoid reality, like this show did. It's why it couldn't get any buzz. It was so far away from the pulse of what is going on, not even an election could save it. What an embarrassment for the employees and even more so for the fans of this abortion.

reply

Weird, you see with your finger? I don't.

Since you are apparently quite confident in this unstated theme, maybe you could just state it for me? I'll even put my finger in your ass if it helps!

The first video, the guy who called the cops flat out lied to escalate a non-threat.
The second video, the cop was asian so I guess it wasn't racist enough to riot over. Should have been a white guy with a southern accent to get some media attention.

reply

Thank you for providing these videos as evidence, Citation_Needed. No snark. Consider the following evidence that these two killings were protested.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtPt6GrnE6s

I do remember reading about the shooting of John Crawford in an Ohio Walmart. He was carrying a BB gun that looked like a real gun that he had picked up from a shelf in the store and scared other shoppers, including the man shown in the video, who called it in. An officer shot Crawford, who seemed to be evading but was probably crazed with fear. Later the main witness who called in (shown in the above video) admitted he was unsure about what he saw. It is not true that there was no protest, as you can see if you watch the video you cited until the end. "Riots"--no. Crawford clearly made stupid mistakes. The following article refers to the persistent protests about Crawford's shooting and the involvement of BLM: http://www.theroot.com/articles/culture/2015/08/one_year_after_john_crawford_iii_s_shooting_by_police_his_family_is_still/

Even you must know that the shooting of Philando Castile sparked major protests in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I will just cite the most concise source here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Philando_Castile. Why does it matter that the officer who shot him was Asian? The people who found this death outrageous were protesting police too quick to shoot a black man.

What you just said is the typical ridiculous argument. Why does a group called black lives matter ignore gang shootings? Like not a word from them about wade's cousin being shot and killed? Her life didnt matter to them?

reply

However you felt about his show, Larry didn't just talk about race. He talked about politics, Bill Cosby drugging, assaulting and raping women, Flint's water crisis, the problems in Rio leading up to the Olympics, etc.

reply

Wilmore kept the show topical 100% of the time, it was always about what was in the news. He didn't just cover racism, but sadly it was in the news more during the past two years than should be necessary for a civilized society!

He did an excellent job when the issue was misogyny and luckily the last week he was able to not forget the abusive *beep* and have a tampon Tuesday segment.

In regards to racism, the last week's episodes also provided him two opportunities to take on the issue from different angles which was great to see: Ellen is not racist and the college students who only want to live with poc are racist. Well done.

I can't begin to comprehend why you post on a board for a show you didn't watch, but "haters" is a reference to what Wilmore said at the end of his last show (he thanked them and appreciated their passion).

reply

The premise in retrospect was pretty dumb. It was a show that was trying to show a wide range of opinions and have a discussion with them. Except with most issues, you aren't gonna have real discussion within 5-7 minutes. On top of trying to have discussion, trying to jam in humor? There was little chance it would work even with a good host. It also matters who you get for the show. I knew the show was going to die when I saw the Bill Nye bit about water on Mars.

reply

How was the show racist? I hear you people spouting off all the time about how this show is racist and Larry is a huge racist.

I would like specific examples of this show (and Larry's) racism.
