Exquisite film!

Enjoyed this film so much I want to encourage other people to see it. Great cinematography used to tell a fascinating story, part psychological drama, part mystery, all conveyed in a series of dream-like sequences. There's a satisfying "reveal" at the end.

Personally, I don't mind subtitles but some people I've talked to have indicated the idea puts them off. Don't be put off by subtitles! This film will repay the small extra effort involved.

It's hard to know what to say about "Cui mian da shi"/"The Great Hypnotist" without giving away anything. So much of the film is focused on the way the characters are surprised again and again by what they learn as the story develops that it would be far too easy to include spoilers here. So I'll just say, see the film, be surprised.

Agreed, and an excellent twist! Surprised Hollywood hasn't made an inferior version yet!

Agreed here as well and I NEVER saw either of the twists coming.

To be fair, I thought the lengthy explanation of the conspiracy to hypnotize the psychiatrist and all the precautions and machinations involved was kind of funny as that sort of thing could never really be satisfactorily explained. It would succeed only by accident. But I really didn't care.

VERY enjoyable film, especially if you like mysteries and, as someone pointed out, the architecture of the office and environs was marvelous.
