Gregory's Wish??

What was it?
Was the dream a figment of the beast's trickery, or did he really get a wish and spent it foolishly?

Men love in haste but detest at leisure. Hatred is by far the longest pleasure.

I believe he wished to take Wirt's place. We see that Aidelle Wood was beginning to sprout around Wirt, and as the Innkeeper from Songs of the Dark Lantern mentioned, when your will begins to "spoil", that when you start turning into an Aidelle Wood tree. The Head Angel (or whatever she's supposed to be) reiterates this when Greg asks her to send him and Wirt home. She states the Wirt can't be saved because he's given up all hope. Greg then wishes for a way to save Wirt so they could both go home, which meant making a deal with The Beast. The thing is, Greg is rather young, so he probably (naively) believes that The Beast is actually going to help him, when the audience knows that The Beast can't be trusted, because he tricks people all the time.

I think his wish was to give Wirt hope. I don't think he got tricked by The Beast, because he tells Wirt that he beat him.

That was it. So his half brother could best the curse.
