the design of the Beast

I love the look of the Beast. We get a very quick glimps of the Beast at the end, and I have to say it was quite horrifying.

I was able to pause it to see it, and It's kind of both. Here's an image of it I found online https://33.media.tumblr.com/77b8abedd4e241ad3b8349b39ee71d19/tumblr_ne nt1qBQMZ1rpk6e5o1_1280.png

Goodbye, sleep.

"DO NOT WRECK THIS GIGANTIC DOOM."

Jesus christ! This aired on Cartoon Network?! Just the Slendermin silhouette was bad enough...

reply

Nice, reminds me of Krueger from Elm street 4 - he holds onto the souls which feed him... so maybe there's hope once he was defeated they were freed.

reply

Well, the Woodsman's daughter reappeared.

I can not lie, it's really creepy in the light. But its dark silhouette reminds me a lot of the Wendigo character from Hannibal (that Will visualizes in his mindscapes there).

That is exactly what I thought of when I first saw The Beast

When all you see is its silhouette, it looks exactly like these creatures on the music video for "Its Only Life" by The Shins. It's a good song and reminds me of Over The Garden Wall.

The wendigo is actually based on a real legend called The Wendigo. The Wendigo was told to be a female spirit that would lure you in by using the wind to call your name. The only way to stop from being overcome by the call, is to be physically blocked by another human being. Then the person blocking you would be called.

It's actually really creepy.

What happens after you follow varies. Some sources include turning into the sand from beaches. The famous "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" included the idea of running toward the sound faster and faster until your feet burn into stubs.

reply

I never heard that one before. The one I often hear is that a Wendigo is a human who has resorted to cannibalism. Though your version is way creepier.

reply

No, Wendigos are cannibalistic people that are cursed due to their cannibalism. I'm not quite sure where he got the Greek Mythology Siren mixed up with the Wendigo.

reply

The Wendigo punishes cannibals. Eating someone is (rightfully) seen as a sin. So naturally, eating someone EVER is supposed to cause addiction and call the wendigo to call you

Read the description on "Human Wendigo". There are different interpretations and versions, but from most versions i've heard, Wendigos are humans that are cursed because of their cannibalism.

Because the humans are cannibals, they are forced to become cannibals for the rest of their lives, never fully satisfied. It is sort of an analogy for greed and gluttony.

reply

This reminds me more of the Sirens from Greek mythology than the Wendigo as it's thought of today

reply

That isn't a Wendigo.

A Wendigo is a part of Native American legend that is a person who turns towards cannibalism and is cursed by it.
