People are hating this movie because of Hinata?

Okay, I completely understand if this movie's not your cup of tea, but if you're only going to hate it because "a side character is taking the spotlight", then I'm really sorry for you.

Try to understand that there are more characters in Naruto than just Team 7. People are allowed to care about side characters as well as main ones.

And I understand if you don't like Hinata, but there have been interviews of Kishimoto saying that Hinata will have a large role in this movie, so I don't see how any of this is surprising all of a sudden. 

Here's a brilliant groundbreaking idea. If you want to make a side chracter important, try . . . I dunno . . . developing her into being important. And don't do it during a 90 minute movie. Do it during a 700 chapter 15 year manga. Now this does require patience and planning ahead, but it can be done. But never, I repeat, never, slap things together at the last minute and hope it sticks. This will only insult people's intelligence.

How could anyone hate Hinata? She's an awesome character.

Hello, Hinata has always been important.

Who gave him the confidence to defeat Nenji when he was doubting himself? Hinata. Who saved him from Pain? Hinata. Who restored his resolve after Nenji died? Hinata. Who has always believed in Naruto and supported him? Hinata.

Alright PE, let's get a few things straight here:

I'm good at writing my own arguements, I admit that. So, do you want to know why I love posting NH rants from Tumblr? It's because there are many non-biased NH fans over there who make good, valid, legit arguements regarding their ship. Now, that's not to say there aren't any NS shippers that do the same, but a lot of the NH blogs I've followed really helped get through the ship wars we've been recently having.

To be honest, before one of my friends got me back into Naruto, I almost wanted to quit the fandom because of the ship wars. But since I came across those NH blogs on Tumblr, overcoming "ship war stress" became a lot easier for me. I hope that makes sense.

So, as I've said before, you don't have to like this movie, but I'd really appreciate it if you would stop trying to use "negative reviews" to bring down the fans that are trying to enjoy it. Thanks. 

You have my apologies if you took any offense my posts here. I have nothing against the fans (particularly those who wish to remain respectful). It's the movie I take issue with. I posted the negative reviews to counter the accusation that people were only having issues because their ship didn't come true.

I'm not denying that Hinata has helped Naruto here and there along the way, but so have a lot of characters (also, when did she save Naruto from Pain? You might wanna reread that chapter). Is Hinata important to the plot? No, she's not. She's a side character. You can take her out of all those scenes you mentioned, sub someone else in (i.e. Iruka) and get the same result.

No, YOU need to re-read that chapter.

At that point Naruto was beaten and utterly defenceless. Had Hinata not intervened that would have been the end of him. Also her apparent death was what caused him to go six-tails. Again, had that not happened he'd have died.

So yes, she absolutely saved him from Pain.

"Is Hinata important to the plot? No, she's not. She's a side character."

Beg your pardon, but so what? The plot isn't important; I read/watch this series because it has characters I like. So what if she's a side character? Doesn't change how great she is.

The plot drives the characters, not the other way around.

I don't know about that. Gaara had him in the same tightspot before and the kyuubi lent Naruto the chakra to get him out. Hinata intervened, but Naruto saved himself. At best, she inspired him. But no no, this talk about 'saving' him just disregards what happened in the manga.

Well I'm glad you like her, but that doesn't alter the fact that she was made into a heroine over night. No transition whatsoever. That's bad writing and those that appreciate the story (i.e. people who don't say things like 'the plot isn't important) didn't like what this movie did. Can we at least agree that Kishimoto ought to have spent a LOT more time on Hinata if he had this outcome in mind? Aren't you the least bit curious as to why her original goal (to change the ways of her clan) has more or less been tossed under the bus?

I like Hinata, but where in the manga was this ever stated?

Hinata may not have been that important to the main plot of the manga, but I still think she had a very significant role in Naruto's character development (maybe not as much as Sasuke and Sakura, but she was still there when he needed her, and vice versa).

Is Hinata important to the plot?

Well, obviously she's important to the plot of this movie, because her sister has been kidnapped, and because the Byakugan will be a huge plot point in it. So, yeah. 

She's important of some movie, yeah, but the plot in general? Completely negligible.

She was very important in some of the arcs. Like The Chuunin Exams, The Pain Arc, The World War Arc, etc.

To be fair though, Kishimoto could've made Hinata a lot more well developed if he hadn't decided to shove Uchiha Clan history down our throats.

I love Kishi, but good God, the Uchiha Clan already had about 10 different backstories! There were literally thousands of other important characters he could've focused on besides them. 

I guess. The Uchiha Clan slughter WAS sad, but it was shoved down our throats too much.

Sasuke is a self-insert wish-fulfillment gary-stu for Kishimoto. That's why he gets off scott free, gets the girl and has much of the plot revolve around him. That's why Naruto never even gets to "defeat" him. No no. Can't have that.

By the way, there's this one anti (Leona Leski) who just recently posted her review here on this site. And rather than talking about the actual plot of the film, she goes into a mental rampage, constantly saying that Hinata was a submissive damsel throughout the entire film (which is both sexist and untrue).

On top of all that, she complains about every female character at the end of the manga by taking a jab at housewives and stay at home mothers (as if housewives and mothers can't be viewed as strong women)!

This isn't even about opinions anymore. The hate this series is getting, because of the end pairings, is becoming more mean-spirited and personal right now. 

Maybe it's just me, but I've seen many female characters (in Chris Claremont's X-Men run, the James Bond series, etc.) who have, despite moments of defeat or capture, show strength and ability. Thus, I don't see a scene of captivity or domestic work as the end-all be-all decision-maker.
And I do agree things are getting UGLY with the Naruto fans. It reminds me of a line from Walter Scott's novel IVANHOE:
“Four generations had not sufficed to blend the hostile blood of the Normans and Anglo-Saxons, or to unite, by common language and mutual interests, two hostile races, one of which still felt the elation of triumph, while the other groaned under all the consequences of defeat.”

reply

Yeah, and the funny thing about all these "damsel in distress" comments, to me, is that Hinata didn't even need a lot of saving in this movie. The only times Naruto had to save Hinata were, at the beginning (when Toneri drained her chakra), and during the climax. That was it!

The scene in the cave didn't count, because she and Toneri were just talking, and Naruto just happened to intervene at the right time.

And in the former situation- hanging on the scarf- Hinata isn't dangling in the air. She has both feet to the wall, implying that she's attempting to climb herself out of this predicament.

Exactly! 

Here's another thing in Leona Leski's review that I feel is worth noting:

Even Naruto gets to think about fighting and Ramen but Hinata's making a sandwich and fainting?

And it's funny, because Hinata actually does neither of those things in the movie (I haven't even seen her make a sandwich once, in the manga or the anime). I also love how this person capitalized "ramen" for no apparent reason (her entire review has really terrible grammar, actually). 

You know why people hate it because of Hinata? Because majority of fans dont care about Hinata who was one of the useless characters in the series. Nothing in the series made us believe that she can be a HERO, that she can be a IMPORTANT part of this series. And now randomly in this movie I am supposed to believe that Hinata is one of the most important characters? How can I? Its like making Tenten an important character for this movie. Where would that logic be? And also the drinking game I invented for this movie. Drink a shot every time they say the name Hinata. U will be flat drunk at the 20 min mark.

reply

Because majority of fans don't care about Hinata

Really? Well, Japan doesn't seem to mind her.

On a side note, Tenten's not a very good comparison, because she (unlike Hinata) was always meant to be canon fodder. Hinata was at least given a backstory and a character arc, something that Tenten never really had.
