What a ridiculous movie

So they travel to the moon through a magic portal, have a battle there without any space suits, and in the end the bad guy who just tried to destroy the entire Earth repents, everyone shrugs and says, oh well, we forgive you for trying to kill us and everyone we know and love. Then they enter the magic portal again where they travel back to earth by hop-scotching over mini planetoids, to live happily ever after. Oh, and Naruto tells Hinata he loves her. Out of the blue. So random.

reply

Hey, I've seen weirder stuff happen in the manga.

By the way, if I remember correctly, Naruto also forgave Obito (you know, the guy that murdered his parents?). He even called him the "coolest guy ever" in the manga.

And...space suits? LOL, this is a story about magical ninjas! Those kind of characters don't need any space suits to fight on the moon. 

In addition to Obito, Naruto has also forgiven:
Gaara- tried to kill his teammates, at one point goading Naruto to abandon them.
Nagato- killed his sensei-grandfather-figure Jiraya. Killed a lot of Konoha's residents and blew up the village. Put Kakashi in a situation that led to his death. Severely injured Hinata.
And, last but not least, Sasuke- turned his back on the village, almost killed Naruto and Sakura, intended to wreak violent vengeance on Konoha for forcing Itachi to kill his clan (even intended to include all the innocents for the crime of living happily as a result of the Uchiha massacre).
In Toneri's case, I figure they understood his actions- punishing the Earth for their abuse of Chakra- was misguided and could be resolved by having him understand the truth.

As for surviving without an atmosphere, it's not as strange as other things that has happened in this series. Of course, I could fanflack the explanation as Toneri using the Tensigan's power to make a temporary hospitable environment to battle Naruto and Hinata; he still wanted Hinata and wished to personally defeat Naruto in combat.

Naruto's accidental confession reminds me of how he defeated Kiba by accidentally farting in his face. Naruto is capable of such things. At any rate, he redeemed himself at the end.

reply

I suppose you're right about that lol. "You stole my baby sister's eyes, you silly joker you. I'll be taking those back now... ABRACADABRA! I think I'll just keep them in my back pocket for now..."

reply

Fascinating. So if Naruto started tossing around pokeballs, you'd be A-okay with that since anything can happen? Just no.

It was established a few times that those magical ninjas needed air.

reply

What part of "Tenseigan" and "artificial sun" do you not get? I already explained it on this thread:

So I'm not going to go over it again, because you obviously weren't paying attention to the movie.

I know. Its that you were saying that ninjas don't need air when they clearly do.

reply

I never said that they didn't need air, I said that they didn't need spacesuits.

utopistic*

reply

Tell me about it, I think this is the worst movie I've seen in my entire life.

Characters are nothing like from manga, like the Earth is in grave danger, Naruto walking around calmly, his personality would be like "IKU ZEEEE, TAJUU: KAGE BUNSHIN NO JUTSU" and rush the fk, not walk like some idiot.
Not to even mention how he doesn't use SM or KM whole episode, just at the end, cause *beep* logic and the writers of these stupid movies, i wouldn't even call them writers tbh.
Searching for a person, guy can sense people with both SM and KM, what do we do? Ask Hinata to look for her with her byakugan, ok then.

I was practically facepalming myself every 20 minutes, like: wtf is this.
I feel like this movie was somewhat made for 12 yr old girls, that enjoy utopistic romance.
Whole movie's idea is based on a huge flaw, something that wouldn't ever be possible.

If the moon would approach the earth more than it is, it would be the end of us before it would even hit the planet. Why? Tides. Simple as that.
Blow up the moon? Like *beep* seriously? That would kill half the globe as well, and not sure what would happen to the other side

Anyhow, don't waste your time watching this movie.
I'm watching Naruto for like 10 years, it's one of my favourite series, and I'm honestly sorry I've spent time watching this *beep*

I'd rate it a 1/10.

Well, it's a good thing my experience with comic books and other manga had strengthened my suspension of disbelief. If I can accept bijus, edo-tenseis, genjutsus, ninjas capable of surviving and enduring lord-knows-what thrown at them, then I guess I can accept the scientific lapses you rant about.
At any case, this film was not a waste of time for me.

Somehow I just can't ignore it how this movie mocks our whole science, including physics, psychology etc.
Superpowers are one thing, they're unknown, undefined things, while things such as psychology and physics are defined.
Characters are nothing like from the manga, Naruto, and everyone is completely different. Just saw a movie where Sakura didn't hit Naruto, Naruto didn't flirt with Sakura, or Hinata didn't blush when he saw Naruto, not to mention how Shikamaru looks like some dumb guy, Kakashi got old as *beep* in 2-3 years for some reason, given the fact he was 25~, it doesn't make any sense.
Don't know honestly, I do like the manga, and this whole series, read it multiple times, but this movie is just a disgrace. Has absolutely nothing to do with the universe Kishimoto created.

reply

Personally, I took those examples as signs of the characters growing up. Sakura isn't violent anymore. Naruto let go of any romantic possibilities with Sakura. And Hinata doesn't faint if the 'N' word is even mentioned (then again, she hadn't done that since the beginning of Part II and strengthened considerably after Pain).
IMO, Kakashi only looks old in the Kage Moon summit, and that is because of the lighting and shade. He looks fine for the duration of the film. And I would figure Kakashi would have been in his early thirties. Remember that he probably was about 14-15 at the time of the Nine-Tails rampage, and Naruto is 19 now.

reply

Leventee, I think you're getting canon Naruto confused with filler Naruto.

See, in the manga, Naruto didn't flirt with Sakura since Part 1 (the moment in chapter 631 doesn't count, because Naruto was just joking in front of his dad, much to Sakura's dismay). Also, in the manga, Hinata only fainted 2 times in front of Naruto, once in Part 1 and once in early Part 2. Hell, she doesn't even blush or stutter that much post-chapter 437. That's why you don't see much of these stereotypes in The Last, because The Last is the only Naruto movie (besides Boruto the Movie) that's akin to the manga.

Well said. I really can't stand the argument that I read sometimes that "oh it's make-believe, so that means that all logic goes out the window!". That's bull.
Basic story-writing 101 is to make your fictitious world believable. Kishimoto got sloppy. Very sloppy. This movie (like most of the 2nd part of the Shippuden arc) is utter crap.

reply

[deleted]

Please, if Kishimoto was to make his world "believable", he wouldn't have had ninjas walking on water or standing on ceilings in the manga.

Naruto is an action-fantasy, not science fiction! So please, learn your genres before making silly rants like this. That goes for the OP and Leventee as well.

do some research into the "suspension of disbelief" you little numbskull.

It applies to any form of fiction. Even a magic act. It has nothing to do with genre.

reply

First of all, there's no need for name calling, and calling me a "numbskull" isn't going to make you sound any smarter. This movie isn't like Superman: The Quest For Peace, where the fight scenes in space actually were stupid! Toneri obviously had some kind of oxygen barrier surrounding his territory, otherwise he wouldn't have been alive on the moon for that long!

Was hoping it would be at least decent considering Kishi was behind it. How wrong was i :(
Doing the Kaguya arc and then doing this movie the guy's definitly lost it

reply

Haha, yeah, indeed.
However, I doubt Kishimoto wrote this, I think movies are written by some other people, I'm not sure tho.

reply

Kishimoto didn't come up with the script, but he did red pencil the stuff that he liked.

the idea behind suspension on disbelief is that you get the facts that we DO know about right, so that the fantasy aspects that we DON'T know about can appear more real.
It's not rocket science.

I can give you hundreds of examples for things where kishimoto relies on REAL things for the purposes of suspending disbelief:

1.) the use of gravity - Shinra Tensei has been mentioned as gravitational force. Why not leave this as just magic? or chakra force?

2.) genetics. He explains these 'bloodline limits' are genetic traits, which is why for example the Uchiha family have the sharingan. Why does he bother to relate it to genetics?

3) Sasuke's Kirin jutsu as explained with atmospheric convection - the rising air current that give rise to stormclouds

4) Gaara's fight with the 2nd mizukage uses quite a lot of rules of physic such as the thermal conductivity of metals

I could go on and on, but you're clearly not getting the picture and seem to still be lumping fantasy into a "anything could happen!" box.

What was the point of Kishimoto putting any effort into trying to explain how these things work? Why relate these ninja powers to science at all? Why not just call it magic?

The answer is that the suspension of disbelief is an important aspect of writing fiction. Only when the viewer's own sense of logic is not mishandled, does fiction become interesting to viewers. All works of fiction, no matter how fantastic the particular acts are, has effort put into rational grounding. It is this grounding which makes it possible to springboard into fantasy.

What is the first few lines in Star Wars? "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....", why did it bother with these lines?

Some of the most successful works of fiction out there are the ones that can do this well. Unfortunately, in the case of naruto, kishimoto became increasingly lazy with this. Even his own fictional rules became inconsistent with each other.

I directed you to the suspension of disbelief hoping that someone would actually try reading what it means instead of trying to argue back weakly, but that's the internet for you. Always end up arguing with dumb kids who insist on staying dumb.

reply

[deleted]

because kishimoto explained how ninjas can walk on water. He specifically showed us diagrams of how chakra is used to place a barrier on the feet in order for this to happen.

Has he explained how people can breathe in space? No. why not? It's called lazy writing and it's a valid criticism. It may not be a valid criticism for you.

Hey, suspension of disbelief is important to people who are smart enough that they question these things. That's not you? That's fine, but I wouldn't be so proud of that fact if I were you.

I enjoyed this movie, if you don't like it then don't watch it.

Because a rotting undead corpse is probably a better choice than most politicians

reply

Seriously though, they explained all of this in the movie. Toneri's kingdom had an artificial sun hovering over it, forming an oxygen barrier all around the moon.

They mention this information at least 3 TIMES in the movie! So how did you guys (Leventee and danzavier) miss all of that? 

To be honest i expected this kind of *beep* from this anime.Naruto was always an idiot. It just here he is with a proper script so people can see a bit more clealer to why that is.
