When in time is this move set? Is it distant future?

In the first movies Selene is around 600 years old and in this one she keeps saying over and over she lived a 1000 years. We are also not shown the human world or humans AT ALL... although the world does look the same. Is this suppose to be 400 years later (that sounds ridiculous)or is it just a figure of speech when she says that?

I think it is that far in the future. IDK. They had to be getting recruits from somewhere.

I guess that's why they didn't show human world too much although you'd think the world would look very different 400 years from now, that part didn't make sense...

Someone involved in making the film said in an interview that it was set not very long after Awakening. I can find a link for that if you want.

Based on how much has happened in between the films, I suspect that it's several years to several decades later, which would put it in the mid 21st century. I think that "1000 years" talk was just a figure of speech.

The vehicles in the film look modern, so I don't think it could be a full 400 years into the future.

As for the lack of humans, I suppose that the humans concluded that they won the war, and the surviving lycans and vampires were good enough at hiding that no one ever noticed them.

I was wondering the same thing, but if there's one thing the Underworld series is VERY bad at (as far as I've noticed) it's keeping to their own established timeline. Leaving out actual years helps them keep it ambiguous, but then they say things "This happened ---- years ago" "I've been this for ---- years" etc, and the times don't quite add up.

As for humans, I think the other poster is right. It'd make sense the vampires and Lycans slipped back into hiding to let the humans think they won or something. You do see them in the background though, like at the train station. The redhead killed a couple guards, so they exist. This is also the first time they show a single female Lycan, which I thought was cool.
