Is it Paul Verhoeven going back to his Basic Instinct phase?
No, not really. I think this is very different from anything Verhoeven has done before, or at least out of the one's I've seen. Basic Instict was a very slick erotic thriller and this is more of a drama, a disturbing drama. The violence and sex that's usual for Verhoeven films is still there though. I'm a fan of Verhoeven but I'm not sure what to think of this. I'm slightly disappointed, but it was still an interesting film and worth a watch. I'll have to let it sink in for a while.
