there's got to be more to it

A mother unexpectedly meets her son's fiancée at a villa in Sicily and gets to know her as she waits for her son to arrive.

Seriously? That's the description. Based on this description alone, I wouldn't watch this movie on TV, little less shell out $15 bucks in a movie theater.

There are better summaries out there for this movie, without giving away the plot in the process.
In my opinion, it is a very good movie. See it.

worth seeing on the big screen, or should I wait for DVD or cable?

Being a big screen, theatre person, I'm not one to say otherwise, regardless.
It is worth a senior or matinee ticket, for sure.

I saw it last night on a big screen with good, dynamic sound, and I was really glad I didn't wait for the DVD: gorgeous cinematography, lush Italian scenery, two beautiful faces with the camera lingering on them . . . And the soundtrack music was really well chosen, I thought, especially at that big moment when the statue is unveiled at the Easter night ceremony, combining a great rush of music and visuals, as well as being a moment when a lot of the movie's emotional currents suddenly all came together. Definitely a big-screen moment!
