What if this had been made 10 years ago?

While binge-watching this movie for the third time, I always thought about the time I used old messaging applications (Yahoo Messenger, MSN) before Skype was available YEARS later.

Maybe a fake messaging application would have been used? Maybe the idea of found footage style filming through a computer would have been big back in 2005?

The only type of thing I can think of is MSN webcam chats, but even then there wasn't any audio/sound with it (I don't think, at least)

MSN webchats had audio, they were about the quality you see in the movie, as in, complete and utter shit.

Unfriended had a big unknown cast when it was made.

Amanda and Megan, oh yes. They were great in Jennifer's Body. Megan would be a cool and cheeky vengeful ghost.
